UF AD probably got tired of being turned down and threw the bank at Mullen.

Possibly. The MS st mod says he doesn't know what it means yet. Staff meeting was to be at 10am. Been postponed. Said he has heard FL and TN getting desparate but nothing on tn side regarding a presser.

the new early signing period really hurts SEC teams looking at frost. He is adamant that he give all his focus to his team through next wk

I like LaVol’s take. Mullen is the line. Anyone above it gets a boom. Anyone below it mattresses burn. If it’s Mullen, let’s ride.

That is pretty much where I am at. He is really hard to get excited about, but I think if he was hired, I could probably convince myself that it was a good hire, and be happy with it.

That Lacanfora article reads just like a message board post. I think whoever the "booster" is he states as a source is also pushing the rumors here.

Whoever the booster is then is an idiot because you don't set the Grumors back ablaze then announce Mullen etc. they were dying down. Now everyone freaking again

This could actually work out for TN. If we fail to get Gruden, or another top target, we could fall back on him in a week or so...

The CBS article is important if you subscribe to the theory that Gruden was locked in sometime before the season ended, but did not want to appear to be in negotiations with for a job before it was officially open (FFCA and whatnot). The article establishes a demarcation line for both parties to claim as the beginning of negotiations.

Not sure I buy that theory, but the timing of the article is very suspicious. This info has been out there to verify for weeks.

If today marks the beginning of the "official" Tennessee quest for Gruden, we are probably looking at an announcement this weekend (SECCG) or next Tuesday. Would allow Gruden to finish two more episodes of MNF and have plenty of distance between his hiring and the end of Tennessee's season.

My opinion is Currie is still working on Mullen (or another candidate).

I think it'll leak today. As soon as he comes to an agreement whichever coach, Mullen, Campbell, etc. will tell his athletic department and someone there will tell a national reporter.

Could go back to that Blackburn conspiracy that he's putting the Grumors out there to set Currie up to fail when he introduces Mullen, Campbell, or Schiano.
