I still think the meeting with boosters where he was laser focused on stadium renovations was more damning. We all thought he was being coy, and no way he’d trot out nothing less than a home run if he was asking people to pony up that kind of money for stadium renovations.

We were wrong, and it shows that this is really what he wants to highlight on his annual review.

He needs to be fired, and whoever signed off on his dumb f@&&ing contract needs to be fired.

If he allowed people to believe we were getting Gruden so that he could squeeze more money out of boosters, that was extremely short-sighted and arrogant. Short-sighted in the sense that he had to know he would be announcing a coach in short order who was bound to disappoint a fan base clamoring for Gruden. Arrogant in the sense that he must have believed he would be able to sway public opinion in his favor after misleading people (or intentionally allowing them to be misled).

I have never really been one to criticize ADs. It just seems to me that it's very difficult to judge the job they're doing when I'm on the outside looking in. I have tended to remain neutral when people start discussing athletic directors. This whole thing has just been terribly mismanaged though. And for the first time I find myself agreeing with the calls to fire the AD.

Ok, to me it's simple. When the loss of revenue surpasses what the Haslams give then it's time to kick them to the curb. You may think that's a lot of money but it's really not in the grand scheme of thing.

I'm pulling numbers out of my backside but a loss of 20k season ticket holders could result in a loss of $40mil in revenue alone each year if you count the minimum donation. If you take into account many donate more than the minimum I would think the number could be higher. The you take the bigger downers the ones in the boxes, you could see substantial additional losses there if they walk away or cut back. Then look at capital campaigns like the Renoations to Neyland. I would think it would be a hard time raising funds for those projects as well.

I think for a power shift over there to occur it would take something massive like this to take place. Sometimes you have to bulldoze it down before you can build back. I think it's highly unlikely for this to occur. My hope is that the Haslams get exposed and they are forced to back down due to public pressure. They do want Bill installed in DePietro's spot so if it becomes common knowledge that the Haslam mafia is in charge it may become hard for a new governor to make that appointment.

You and I are on exactly the same page.

This is all about the ballot box next year. Is Diane Black in their corner? I get the impression she is not. This a defining issue of how I will vote.

One of three things is going to happen

1. The AD will make an underwhelming hire and VN will be panting after Gruden in 3-5 years. (Most likely)

2. The AD gets lucky with an underwhelming hire that greatly overachieves. (Less likely)

3. Realizing they are laughingstocks of college football AD’s, they grow some sack, get serious, and go out and work until a proven big time winner says yes (least likely)

Because...
4. Haslam wins

Anyone asking for Gruden next time is going to get it both barrels from a lot of fans on here. Not going to be a popular "candidate" when we're shipping again in a couple years

PSA to everyone on this board. It is spelled MORON not "moran". It's an epidemic that needs to end. If we're going to insult ones intelligence, we need to do it correctly!

I am sorry, but if this was not intended to be with blue font, then you might be a moron. I am a proud moran fwiw.

2 is the most concerning. Basically saying our athletic director was a known problem in the coaching community before he created this circus.

Yep fire him and appoint Fulmer as AD. No-one wants to come coach here. Fulmer is a Vol treasure and can fix relationships as Well as do what's best for UT. He loves the vols and everyone loves him.
