1. Do you perceive Currie as a lame duck now?..should we move on?
2. More importantly do coaches out there perceive him in that manner?
3. Overall did the fanbase/ media hurt or help this program with Sunday's unprecedented meltdown?
4. How would you rank these candidates as most likely to come now...Brohm, Miles, Morris, Tee, Kiffin...please add any other candidate that you think we would have a shot at getting.
5. Do you all believe that Payton Manning really "signed off" on Schiano or is he just a Haslam puppet now?

1. Clearly he has lost the equity he had built. Now lame duck to me means out of a job. I don't think that's the case, but he's certainly created concerns.

2. I think before Sunday coaches had some concerns about him. Coaches talk to each other. I'm sure coaches have talked to Bill Snyder and Frank Martin. That's something Currie has probably had to deal with even before Sunday.

3. Depends on your view of things. They had a hand in Schieno got getting the job. Not so did some high level donors and politicians. Do some coaches wonder about how quickly this fan base turns on someone? Maybe. But I wouldn't put the blame of this search going the way it is solely on them.

4. Honestly for all of us it's a full blown scramble right now. I don't think Brohm will leave Purdue after one year. Miles is definitely interested. Not sure on Morris. Tee is interested. Not sure he's talked to Tennessee other than some long time friends at this point. Would be surprised if the Vols went back down the Kiffin road. Would they try and throw huge money at a big name like a Gundy or someone like that? I don't see him moving. Same for a guy like Leach. Do you slow down and see if there's NFL possibilities out there? Everyone is scrambling.

5. Yes, I believe Manning did.

Terrible way to proceed. Remember when we discussed how this hire will be program defining? Remember when we discussed how important this hire is to the future of UT football? That's still the case. Take your time and get it right. Don't rush this because we have visitors in this weekend. It's bigger than the early signing period, imo.

I agree with importance of hire but Currie and Haslam already guaranteed this is underwhelming.

That one move set us back even further IMO

I could certainly be wrong, but I don't think Tee is ready. I would love to see him come home someday, but I think he needs more experience. Let him cut his teeth for a few years as the top guy at a mid-major somewhere. Bringing him here as HC under the current set of circumstances would be setting him up for failure IMO.

I say go all in on Les Miles. He is an experienced guy who can stabilize things and offers instant credibility.

i think hes ready. Thats just kind of a cop out. Theres so many examples out there.

I'm warming up to les miles. We need a cagey old veteran that knows his way around the SEC. If he could assemble a great staff I think it could work. He still has some star power.

I don’t know about any of these hires. I feel like I’m ready to boo anyone they hire because I know how the hire is getting made.

Regarding Tee:

I've seen about 70% of Vol fans say they'd be pumped about it. About 30% say it makes them nervous but they would support him like crazy.

Every nationally media person I've seen mention Tee to UT says it would be a great hire and what they should've done in the first place.

This thing is about as unanimous as it gets.

Which is exactly why the Haslams won't do it. They like to feel smart. And if it is unanimous, and Tee succeeds, they won't get the credit they think they deserve for making the hire.

This.

At this point, Im down with Les Miles. I know he is older but we dont need him forever. We need stability and he brings that and oh hey, he's a decent coach, a great recruiter, and knows the SEC backwards and forwards.

To make sure everyone is understanding how dumb this is....

He has a $900k salary. Incentives to make up to $1.2m

His buyout is $1.2m per year for the full term.

If he works his tail off for the next 4.5 years and does great he MIGHT make $5m over that time.

If we fire him today he makes $6m guaranteed and doesn’t have to lift a finger.

So what you're saying is we need the Browns to hire Currie for GM. Tell Haslam he can stay in Cleveland full time with him. #Currie4BrownsGM

What sucks is

We are all sitting here saying “I don’t care who it is now. Just hire someone.”

Yeah this is going to end well

Only Tennessee would handle the most important hire at the university like a 4AM last call desperation hookup.

Why would they?

Inept

Bear in mind that it's in the best interest of either UT or the coaching candidate to keep things quiet if there are any conversations, feeling out, determining interest, etc.

UT doesn't want to move forward in a search with a growing list of coaches who have declined interest. Nor does the coach necessarily want the fans of his school to have concerns he is anxious to move to greener pastures.

As a result, we continue to hear reports that Coach X or Coach Y hasn't heard from a particular school, such as UT.

I think it is more about control that feeling smart.

2 is the most concerning. Basically saying our athletic director was a known problem in the coaching community before he created this circus.

Would settle us down for a year or two

Or four. He's widely respected. Kids love to play for him. He could get us back to respectability. He's a veteran so he can handle the pressure of fans and media. I think he's fresh enough to be able to attract recruits and if he hires a great staff the recruits will come. He is a national championship winning coach. Ties to Louisiana. Probably can get Austin Thomas back here.
