Not sure what the answer is to the head coaching vacancy and it's obviously Job 1-A. But Job 1-B is to fix the AD. From the outside, or at least from my perspective, it is failing miserably and calling it dysfunctional is being kind. It's not just football, athletics at Tennessee are simply mediocre at best with just a few exceptions.
Everybody is tossing around millions upon millions to find the right coach, but if it's me, the day after he's signed I'd relieve Currie and go after the best AD alive. Whatever the going rate is, I'd pay him double...heck, I'd pay him triple since your're going to need someone highly skilled to navigate the challenges with the administration and boosters. But that's a problem he will have almost anywhere but I'd make it so lucrative, it would be almost impossible to turn down. Simply put, the most talented and highest paid athletic director would be found at UT.
There's very little that can be done with the top level of UT's administration and boosters are a necessary "evil" to an athletic program, but there's somebody out there who's skilled enough to navigate UT's environment and be successful. I'd make sure that guy was working in Knoxville.
