Have we passed the point of no return? Has there ever been a historically elite program that has sunk as far as we have (no conference championships in 21 years, and counting...we sure as hell aren't winning one anytime soon)? And, if so, did they come back from it?

I think the answer is no. It really makes you wonder if being a passionate fan of this crap is worth it. However, as I've said before, I don't know how to just flip the switch to turn it off...I don't think that's possible either.

Interesting. Was talking to a guy yesterday whose father was an assistant coach years ago, including at UT. He was well before Tee but did coach high school and in the CFL at the end. He said the same thing about Tee.

This reputation has been out there about it him since he took over for Peyton and was more successful without being an overbearing *******.

No one outworks Peyton. That's fine. But sometimes you don't need to.

Kevin Steele is a "take the program out back and shoot it" hire.

I've become dangerously close to apathy at this point. I'll wait and see who we hire but i think my rabid fandom is going to be cooling down quite a bit over the next year. Just hard to get excited when we have leaders and boosters that don't care about their fans or their program for that matter.

On the bright side, the rut is in full swing here in West TN

I started unplugging after 2016. The Florida and Georgia games were the best moments I ever experienced as a rabid Vols fan, but it went rapidly downhill and I just wasn't able to get invested about 2017 like I usually get invested in pre-season. I was looking forward to it, to be sure, but not counting down the days to kickoff or anything like that. Eventually you find you don't miss it as much and it becomes easier.

I think this program is on life support and I frankly don't see a way out of it at least quickly. I'd say we're going to be in this pit of misery for another 8 to 10 years and probably 2-3 coaches. If we had competent leadership it could be shorter but changing the way things are done when they've been done that way for 12-15 years is a slow process. How do you get someone or a group of people out of power when they have the system rigged. It's truly a monarchy.

Same here. The hope of the last half of 2015 and first half of 2016 had me super excited. I pretty much checked out after, with the sugar bowl on the line, we couldn’t beat Vanderbilt.

When things were bad this year I plugged back in to find news. But yeah... losses don’t sting anymore. Wins are meh. It just is.

Kiffin just called out Currie on the Clay Travis show. Said that when Currie called Sexton, Sexton asked him if he wanted to talk to Kiffin and Currie said he wasn't interested.

no just a couple for the Kentucky game through ORNL. I may go to more if its a good experience.

Check out the Tennessee pass. $99/ticket for every game. You get an email 48 hours before each game and you go on and select your tickets. The sooner the better. So far our tickets have been very good. All either 200 or 100 level.

Whoever we hear as the next frontrunner will be the coach. IMO. They already have a ton of egg on their face. Swung for the fences with Gundy.

Brought more embarrassment to the school after that. They will make sure before anything leaks that the next guy has said yes.

I just don't see how this ends well. I had such high hopes, seeing Coach Fulmer and Peyton walking around, smiling...Gruden (like him or not, he would have brought an all-star staff and would have killed recruiting) walking around Knoxville...positive vibes on VN. Man, the future looked so bright.

And now this. UT has either been turned down, or failed to make an offer to Gruden(?) and almost every P5 coach who can reasonably be considered a "proven winner"; Currie looks like a complete idiot; Lane Kiffin is putting smiley faces on his alimony checks; and we're not too far away from starting to peek around the FCS ranks to see if there's a guy there with a pulse and thick skin.

Charlie Brown summed it up nicely: "good grief".

I don't know what the right answer, or solution is, and right now I have zero confidence that anyone in any position of influence in the UTAD is going to get it right. But...have a coach we must, so I'm just going to sit back and see who gets trotted out to the podium with a smile and a nice speech about restoring UT Football. While I'm mouthing the words "Dead Man Walking".

Somebody with Photoshop skills needs to make a meme of the General's statue with his head in his hands. That's where we are right now.

Go Vols.

From the great minds that brought you 68-67 Greg Schiano comes.... 9-36 Kevin Steele!
