Update on one that Butch and staff passed on - Poona Ford. The Hilton Head area paper said he had a strong spring practice and will likely make it into the 2 deep rotation at DT at Texas. He played some snaps in 9 games last season. Obviously not to the level of what we've got, but still a good DT.

Good for him. It was the best move for both parties to pass, but glad he's in the 2 deep there. Hope he does well

Whatever happened to Dalton Santos? He still at Texas as well?

That kid was like Dillon Bates before Dillon Bates. He was a VN favorite until he spurned us at the last minute.

Remember when we used to get burned by kids like that all the time?

He wasn't even a top 250 player and Dools still couldn't hang onto him.

Close2Poona an all time top 5 screen name here. Wish we could have gotten him for that reason alone. Who wouldn't trade him for Sawyers in a heart beat right now?

Since we're discussing former commits, Jerome Dews redshirted and is listed as a 6-4, 190 lb DE, but he did make the honor roll at Marshall. Not listed in the 2 deep

All I know is that we have an opening at MLB and....well....it makes me think of the one that got away.

Couple VQ War Room notes....

-The anticipation for the debut of Nike for UT is getting bigger. They plan to reveal all uniforms at midnight on July 1st. They also have it set up where you should be able to buy merchandise and gear starting at 12:01 a.m.

-As you may imagine, Josh Dobbs will represent UT and attend the Manning Passing Academy.

-Butch and Jon Gruden have grown to be good friends. A genuine friendship. Looks like Gruden will be back on Rocky Top in the Summer.

-There are 2 key elements for Von Pearson. Grades and whether there are pressed charges. Von is still enrolled for the Summer and Fall semesters. There is optimism that Von will finish strong in the classroom. And if charges are not pressed against Von, there's also optimism there that he could re-join the team.

-Butch is adamant that he doesn't want his staff to get complacent in the Summer months. He's challenged them to begin prepping for the Fall with the current roster players as well as the new comers that will arrive on June 1st. Butch doesn't want the hype to get to this team.

-As for the summer workouts, look for Debord and the Vols to implement a half-line pass skeleton drill. There will be very minimal 7on7 work. Oftentimes in the past, there has been injuries, and now Butch believes UT doesn't have the depth to do that this Summer. This is a Summer format that UT and Ohio State coaches have discussed.

-Preston Williams is in town starting the mini term. Justin Martin's transcripts were not able to be processed in time. So he'll have to wait until June 1st. There's no red flags or anything like that with Martin, just bad timing.

-Lastly, Will Jumper, Colton Jumper's brother will be a 2015 walk on.

Thanks. Can anyone explain to me the difference between a 'half-line pass skeleton drill' versus 7 on 7 work? I've heard of 7 on 7 drills but not the other one.

Left side of the formation runs their routes, then the right side..

I think if Derek Dooley were still the coach he would find a creative way to practice that would limit injuries. I think he deserves a second chance for sure.

Running and cutting provides a lot of opportunities for blown acl's. I can still picture Justin Hunter's acl tear as if it happened yesterday.

So can I. I was bottom level and behind the play when it happened. Worst game ever.

Why do people waste their time posting obvious troll posts on message boards? What do people get out of it? Find something more productive to do with your life. Idle hands are the devil's workshop

Less chance of collisions from players running across the field. It happens a lot. Especially knee bruises, ankle bruises, knee to thigh bruises, and so on. Those little injuries bother fast/quick players.

Makes sense.

With Dobbs being a junior now, hopefully the chemistry and comfort between he and the receivers won't need as much work this summer.

Making the honor roll doesn't surprise me. He came from a super family. I remember his dad was a real classy person that posted on here sometimes. Wish Jerome would make the starting team at Marshall and do very well. The redshirt may help him a lot.

You need to go to UGA's huge indoor practice facility and do some 15 yard sprints Vince. Does Barbara not have any jokes to tell you so you can stay off the computer?
