As long as Butch has the team believing they can win every game I am happy.
Sure you can give valid reasons why this team will not win 10 to 11 games this season but every team we play has to deal with issues too. This is a dangerous team .

This. :good!:

Focus and effort make up for deficiencies at times. That's why Mizzou has played in the SECCG the last two seasons instead of UGA. We can learn from that as a team and as fans. Now that the talent is catching up, I know I would not want to play against our guys.

For the first time in years, we have the talent to win every game. We'll need confidence, luck and to remain injury-free at key positions, but it's possible... and it will be possible until that first loss. We don't know how good Team 119 is yet. The team that takes the field this fall won't be the same team that practiced in the spring. The pieces are there; they just need to come together.

We have 8 home games and are likely to be favored in 3 out of 4 road games. Our toughest opponents have issues, too. It may not be quite parity, but everyone looks vulnerable this year. I won't be disappointed if we win 9, but I won't be surprised if we win more. And I think the UT-UGA game will decide the East. JMO.

11-1 only loss @A&M

The Texas VFLs vehemently oppose that loss. We will all be at that game. Since it is not played in San Antonio (Alamo reference) and General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna is not coaching, Tennessee Volunteers will be victorious... :salute:

If that is your only proposed regular season loss for 2016, should amend it to 12-0! :)

C'mon guys..it is rediculous to be expecting 10-11 wins this season. It is a recipe for disappointment. It is one thing to say that "with a few good breaks, and few injuries, we COULD win 10-11 games" to expecting it. We still have depth and inexperience issues at almost every position. It is fantasy to think injuries will not happen. If Dobbs goes down..disaster. If Hurd and Kamara go down..disaster. If the OL doesn't vastly improve, and IF they do improve, if any starting Tackles go down...disaster. If whoever wins the starting MLB position gets injured..well we saw what happened last year. Folks lets all expect continued improvement, but pump the freakin brakes a little, or what could be a really good year at 8-9 wins. Will just feel like another gutpunch...Go Vols.

At this point in the 2015 regular season, Tennessee has the potential to go 12-0.
Is that okay?

Tennessee sports = unending unwavering optimism for me.

The rest of life = realistic optimism.
My wife is a pessimist...so I get enough "realism" at home. Don't want it at my oasis known as VolNation! :)

My current definition of irony:
We bought a lake house during a severe drought...got a good deal on a nice house and property.

We have a lake house but no lake...

Now in 2 months Texas has gotten so much rain that all the area lakes are above level...except for our lake. Now in 2 weeks, torrential rain in our cachment region has had our lake rise from 24' below normal to 2.5' below normal. More rain on the way, will be full pool this week maybe more.

Now we have a lake to go with our lake house. Not so fast my friend...

Wednesday a tornado came through our neighborhood and destroyed most of our lake house.

My silver lining is that we were not there midweek. Also as important, all my neighbors that live there were not harmed (have an 80 year old couple next door).

As I told my kids, all we lost was stuff. Insured stuff that can be replaced. Plus after all is said and done, we will have a new lake house. Tornado destroyed the house, but didn't touch my boat that was right next to the house:)

VN and family like OB79 and SKV easily keep my perspective oriented. :hi:

It's been a nightmare Doc...but hey! We could live in Krum.

Can always be better… Or worse.

Because of the drought, we were developing foundation issues. Had that fixed about two months ago. Looks like the tornado jammed the house and warped the frame that's left as well as Mayham to even damage the foundation.

Told my wife that someone upstairs is upset with her. She wanted the house. They must not be mad at me because the tornado did not touch my boat :)

For everyone saying we lose 3-4 (and I'm one of them): Why do you think we will lose those games?

If we break down last year's games, it's pretty easy to see why we lost:

OU: FCS-level OL play. Their DL vs our OL was a nightmare mismatch. Give us an average OL and that game is close, although they still get the edge.

UGA: Worley getting knocked out of the game briefly, Hurd fumbling in the end zone, and Gurley making big plays when it mattered. Take away the first two and we win that game, IMO.

UF: Poor offensive gameplan, lack of risk-taking on 4th down when it was clear we were settling for FGs (that fake from the Missouri game would have won us this game), and a stout DL vs our awful OL. I also think the checker Neyland atmosphere created a tense environment for the coaches/players, which is the last thing you need vs UF.

Ole Miss: OL again. Our defense stood strong early on, but they wore us down. Our offense couldn't move the ball or stay on the field.

Bama: Inexplicable defensive breakdown guarding Amari Cooper. Granted, he was the best player in CFB last year, but there's no excuse to allow him to run wild like that in the secondary. If Dobbs starts the comeback down just 20-0 instead of 27-0, we have ourselves a ball game.

Missouri: Decimated WR corps, distractions from losing A.J. the week before, and two excellent pass rushers vs our still terrible OL. Despite the mismatch, if Malone catches that ball or merely drops it instead of allowing it to get picked, we have a good chance of winning.

The common thread here is the OL. It clearly cost us 4/6 games and had an effect vs UGA and Bama as well.

For 2015, I don't expect the OL to miraculously become elite, but there are several things that will mask its deficiencies: Dobbs' mobility, playcalling that will make defenses more hesitant to blitz, and the ability to rotate bodies.

As much as I loved the checkerboard by the fans, it was the wrong game. The FL game is always between the ears more than any other game and it needs to be as loose as possible with no pressure. Pretty sure Butch learned that lesson. We should be more talented than them this year and win at their house. But it will fall squarely on how Butch preps the team mentally that week. Hope he doesn't over pressure the team that week like Fulmer used to.. Good post Aesius.

Dang Doc! Glad you're ok! You're attitude about this is refreshing as well. I'll say a prayer for you anyway.

We beat UF and UGA with better "in game" coaching IMO.

If we play Dobbs instead of Peterman in that UGA game when Worley went down, we win.

If we play Dobbs in the UF game some, we win. Not to mention the punt on 4th and 1 from inside their 40.

Even though I'm not sold on Dobbs as being a great passer, his fit in this offense is perfect. The decision to try and redshirt him last year cost us two wins minimum.

That said, the OL play was very bad last year and I'm thinking that we can possibly make a big leap this year with just average O line play. Although, from what I saw Brett Kendrick needed to play more and the staff refused to give him more reps. That was a head scratcher to me but I'm not an O line coach either.

I love everything about Coach Jones with the exception of his in game coaching. (But to this point he's been at a disadvantage in talent for sure, so being in games in the 4th is promising) Hoping that changes this year.

JMO.
