My current definition of irony:
We bought a lake house during a severe drought...got a good deal on a nice house and property.
We have a lake house but no lake...
Now in 2 months Texas has gotten so much rain that all the area lakes are above level...except for our lake. Now in 2 weeks, torrential rain in our cachment region has had our lake rise from 24' below normal to 2.5' below normal. More rain on the way, will be full pool this week maybe more.
Now we have a lake to go with our lake house. Not so fast my friend...
Wednesday a tornado came through our neighborhood and destroyed most of our lake house.
My silver lining is that we were not there midweek. Also as important, all my neighbors that live there were not harmed (have an 80 year old couple next door).
As I told my kids, all we lost was stuff. Insured stuff that can be replaced. Plus after all is said and done, we will have a new lake house. Tornado destroyed the house, but didn't touch my boat that was right next to the house
VN and family like OB79 and SKV easily keep my perspective oriented. :hi:
This is a 8-10 win team, IMO. I'll split the difference and say 9.
OU, UGA, and Bama are my concerns. I think we nail the rest, give or take a game.

Hi Doc, sorry for your loss, but I'm happy to see that you have the right perspective. If you & your family are healthy, that's the most important thing.
Nature has gotten violent here in eastern NM in recent years also.
In 2012 a lightning strike on Sierra Blanca started a small fire. Forest Service in their wisdom "contained" the fire for a week but didn't put it out. Then high winds came up & fire came nine miles down the mountain in only 7 hours. Neighbors woke us up at 2:30 am & we evacuated for a week. Fire destroyed about 270 homes, including 6 of our neighbors. Our house was OK, but we lost 2 acres of trees. I never wanted to be a lumber jack, but still working to cut up & burn branches & tree trunks.
In 2013 golf ball sized hail dented my new Toyota truck parked outside. Weird. Minor hail damage to house. Then pine bark beetles moved in & attacked trees that had survived but were weakened by the fire.
Last year I was recovering from a broken leg that I got while backpacking in Arizona when a mini-twister lifted our membrane roof & slammed it back down. (We were out of the house at the time, fortunately.) Then we had a 2" rain & we discovered a waterfall in our guest bedroom. It took the rest of the year to replace the roof & repair the water damage to our bedroom. The insurance coverage paid for it, but needless to say, they are not happy with us. We're real close to having our insurance coverage dropped.
2015? So far we haven't had a plague of locusts or frogs raining from the sky. We're keeping our fingers crossed.
The important thing is that the wife & I are healthy now & ready to take on whatever God or the universe wants to bring us next. I'm ready for an uneventful 2015, hopefully.
