For those who care (and those who don't, DEAL WITH IT) ahem...

I, along with my band will be in the studio for a few weeks recording our very first album. We start this week. Wish us luck!

Woot! Hope it goes well and you guys cut some awesome tracks! Looking forward to the bass solo. :)

I just went back and watched Da'Rick highlights. I miss having a receiver like that. He was money on crossing routes and in traffic. That's another of those what could have been stories.

He's had a couple pretty sweet catches, but hasn't put together a whole season like Da'Rick did.

Darick was a heck of a talent. He didn't do anything his freshman year compared to North but exploded in his Soph year with a better QB. I'm very excited to see a healthy North this year with a full season of Dobbs.

Could we possibly see Hurd used as a pass-catching TE while Kamara is in at RB? Seems to me like that could be hard to defend on a triple option play.

The play that comes to mind when you mention this is the one where Hurd and Lane were in the backfield together. Dobbs faked the read option to Hurd while Lane went out and ran an angle pattern down the seam. It went for a nice gain, and if that were Kamara, he probably scores. IMO, it was one of Jake's better calls last year.

He's every bit as talented, arguably more so, as Da'Rick.

I agree, he needs to put together a full season but, IMO, if you put Marquez North with Tyler Bray...records would be broken.

This offense isn't as WR-friendly as Chaney's.

It did seem like we ran more vertical routes in the O&W game. Maybe Debord is trying to put more vertical concepts into our offense. It's already a a kind of power spread and the ability to beat you deep would really put it over the top, so to speak.

I would trade any WR we have for 2011 Da'Rick (diva issues aside, of course). He was the sole offensive threat that year and racked up 1,000+ yards despite catching passes from Matt Simms/freshman Justin Worley in 5/12 games. Dude was a YAC machine and far tougher than anyone we have on the roster right now save maybe Pig Howard.

Pig Howard is a damn warrior. Every time he gets tackled, it always looks like the end of his career but he always pops right back up and lines up again. Dude gives it 100% every single play.

Pig is my favorite WR on the roster right now. He really turned it on towards the end of the season.

That said, I'd argue that Da'Rick in 2011 had the same qualities but was big enough to absolutely manhandle DBs and even drag them (see: Honey Badger) for extra yards. Had North's catching ability as well.

I think that with a healthy Tyler Bray for 12 games in 2011 and a bowl appearance, he would have been an All-American that year.

Darick had the single best season of any TN WR since Robert Meachem. That offense was putrid and he was the lone receiving threat

North could learn to play angry like 21 did. 8 is built like him with better jump ball skills but at this point in their careers, 21 > 8. IMO.

I would not enjoy trying to tackle Pig. He packs a punch for his size.

i agree. north is actually bigger too. Hopefully the light really comes on this year. Super talented.

Call me a sunsine pumper, whatever but I honestly think that it all finally comes together for him this year. Him struggling allowed Pig to shine last year and now opposing teams will focus as much on him as North and that will leave North with fewer double teams and with Dobbs getting it figured out and our run game and OL improvement opening up the field...I just have a feeling that North is going to explode this year.

The entire WR corps is poised to explode this year.

Having North, Croom, and Smith back at 100% will be HUGE. Plus, we'll have even better versions of Pig, Pearson, and J. Johnson. And if Malone becomes a reliable weapon and Williams is ready to play at all, that group is probably the best in the country.
