*sigh*

There are tons more 2 and 3 stars given out to recruits, so naturally there will be some that are over looked and perform better. There are a small number of 4 and 5 star players in comparison.

Sorry I made you spit up a hairball...:yuck: Seemed topical considering it's a spat between a five star elitist and a 2 star beast. :yu:

My Bama SMH moment of the day: so there's the game called Game of War for the phone, iPad, etc. Well a guy named "RolldamnTide" was next to me so I messaged him the following:

F&%k bammer and Go BIG ORANGE

His response was "Big Orange?"

SMH

So me and the family are at Panama Beach. I'm wearing a UT football shirt getting on the elevator an a guy says (wearing a bama hat) so your a Tennessee fan? Yes, how did you know? He said read your shirt without missing a beat I said " Your the first bama fan I've ever met who could read" my wife like to have died and the rest of the elevator busted out laughing. Who says you can't have fun with bama fans.

Well played sir, very well played.

Just got back from the Bahamas. Saw a lot of orange and power T's which was very comforting. Met several bammer and Sacolina fans. The general feel from them is they're not looking forward to our meetings this fall. Feels sooo good to be respected again! Everyone knows what's happening on the hill, they just can't accept it yet.

There's a thread on reddit's NFL board about how an average Joe would be able to affect a game as a legal 12th man on either offense or defense.

Strong delusion in there. People talking about how they'd be able to catch 15-20 yard passes uncovered, or that they'd be an extra pass rusher bull rushing the QB to flush him out of the pocket, strip the ball, or even sack him.

It's crazy how people still believe that the things they're watching on Sundays are things that mere mortals can achieve. 99% of people wouldn't be able to catch more than 1 out of 10 passes from an NFL QB wide open while wearing pads and a helmet. 99% of people wouldn't be able to get close to a QB even as an unblocked pass rusher, and even if they did close the distance, they would probably bounce right off him or get juked out of their shoes by someone as "immobile" as Big Ben.

Hell, I'd wager that an average Joe wouldn't even be able to meaningfully contribute to an NAIA/D3 game without getting seriously injured in the process.

I would dominate the nfl if they only gave me a chance. I know this because I make my 9 year olds look foolish on the reg.

I believe I could carry a clipboard if they let me get a short nap at halftime.

On offense, use an extra FB.
On defense, use an extra LB.

And just tell them to do whatever.

I think having an average 12th guy on the field would actually hurt most teams. On defense they'd get in the way and on offense they would fumble.

It probably depends on the individual, but it doesn't seem impossible to believe that a 24 year-old male in good physical shape with previous HS football experience and some time to study the playbook couldn't be at the very least a possession receiver at the D2 or D3 level. Now give that guy 5 or 10 years and he's toast.

Any of you VFLers old enuff to remember George Plimpton's book "Paper Lion" about time he spent with the Detroit Lions? Think it was from 1966.

In 1963, Plimpton attended preseason training with the Detroit Lions of the National Football League as a backup quarterback, and ran a few plays in an intrasquad scrimmage. These events were recalled in his best-known book Paper Lion, which was later adapted into a feature film starring Alan Alda, released in 1968. Plimpton revisited pro football in 1971,[18] this time joining the Baltimore Colts and seeing action in an exhibition game against his previous team, the Lions. These experiences served as the basis of another football book, Mad Ducks and Bears, although much of the book dealt with the off-field escapades of football friends such as Alex Karras and Bobby Layne.

That's getting pretty far away from average Joe territory.

I think the best shot of a non active athlete impacting the game would be a 6'3"-6'6" guy weighing in the high 200s who just eats up space. Could help double team the best pass rusher on offense and try to help stuff the run on defense. He wouldn't accomplish much but his weight and size would contribute somewhat. Putting him one on one with any linemen would be asking for injuries, though. He would also get fatigued after about 3 plays.

Outside of that, an average Joe would be useless. Too slow to cover anyone in the open field on defense and definitely too slow to catch a ball and run, even a dump off pass in the flat.
