Per the 247 VIP room...

1) McKenzie showed up in great shape and at 335.

2) Austin Smith is shredded like an upperclassman and working in the Maggit role.

3) Sapp is athletic and very impressive. Over 200#. Working with OLB.

4) Vincent Perry is looking good and will probably carve a role out in the return game.

5) No glaring weaknesses out of the summer enrollees. IOW, everyone looks to make an impact down the road and wasn't a "mistake" to sign.

GBO. Carry on...

Great news!
However, when I got up to 335 my doctor told me I needed to lose about 150 pounds.

3. I'm embarrassed to admit that I completely forgot about this kid. He's a player though - good athlete. Hope he can get a redshirt this year to hit the weights and the playbook.

5. So far this staff has done well at avoiding those. Who have we had in the first three classes for Butch? De'Andre Payne. Woody Quinn. Are there any others? Obviously there will be kids that just don't pan out for one reason or another (injuries, transfers, light just never comes on), but precious few that look like 'misses' straight out of the box.

A. If the media was discussing them like they're discussing us (as in the same fashion), then they would be a good team that we should beat on here, not the battle for our lives

B. We are absolutely more talented than them.

Arkansas is the 5th most difficult team we will face this year. Everyone is nervous because they're old school, run down your throat. The game is in Neyland and our dline will be in mid season form. It will look like UK last year.

Insert illogical comment:

C. They're a bunch of poons disguised as pigs

Dude, I don't know why everyone on VN underestimates Arkansas when they're following the exact same trajectory as we are. We'll hype the Vols to a 9-win expectation, but then Arkansas (a team who beat two ranked opponents last year to our zero) is just a bunch of three-star schlubs.

Forget star-ratings. We know the talent we have, but fit/scheme/gameplan is just as crucial. TCU, Baylor, Michigan State, etc aren't exactly loaded with the 4- and 5-star prospects that Tennessee pissed away during the Dooley years, but somehow (spoiler alert: good-to-great coaching) put together top-10 teams.

They're built to win in the most basic, conventional fashion-- run the ball to control the line of scrimmage. Pass when needed. Eat clock, keep the defense off the field.

I do think they proved enough last year to be ranked ahead of us, and I think this will be one of our most physically demanding games of the year. This game is a legit 50-50. It WON'T look like Kentucky, that's incredibly naive to think.

im just thankful they no longer have Darius Philon, Trey Flowers, Martrell Spaight, Braylon Mitchell, Alan Turner, Tevin Mitchell and Carroll Washington on their defense anymore.

Yeah and we were going to dominate Mizzou and A&M when they came into the league. At least the Vols under Jones are in a position to make a move.

Yeah, the loss of those playmakers will help, particularly Philon, Flowers, and Spaight. But I'm not going to blindly assume they have no one to fill in. It's a team that's built inside-out on both sides. Their front-7 might take a step back, but it won't be a nosedive.

no, but you dont lose those 3 NFL guys in your front without taking a step back. Theyre gonna be a good team but im not sure that defense will be as dominant as the 2nd half of last season.

Vols open as 3-point favorites over Oklahoma, 4-point favorites over Florida and 1.5-point favorites over Arkansas.

And. Here. We. Go!

So we are a TD better than UF and a tossup with OU and Arky on a neutral field according to them? I'll take it.

last yr we were a 1pt fav vs UF so that sounds right. If this game were in Knox it would be about a touchdown..where all the lines posted at?
