Recruiting Forum Football Talk XVIII

It honestly wouldn't surprise me if Texas became an Independent. Not saying it will happen though.

They talked about it when the Pac 12 was flirting with them. If the Big 12 can keep Oklahoma in the fold, I see them realizing they've got about as good a deal as they could score, and sticking. Going Indy would be a big mistake IMO.

It would be a huge mistake, but from all of the pride and holier-than-though attitude that program has it just wouldn't surprise me one bit. Oklahoma is the only holding factor the Big 12 has for keeping Texas. From what I have understood from some peeps I know who are Longhorn fans they couldn't care less about any other Big 12 program. Even Baylor or TCU.

Yeah...had way too many conversations with Longhorn faithful...they're what Ohio State fans would be if...they're just like Ohio State fans. :)

I asked this in the football forum, but I think you guys will be more helpful...

I need your help VN...

In the 2008 season, the video montage they played before pregame with the U2 song Vertigo was beyond epic.

I need to watch it again!!!!

Does anyone have this?

I believe the "experts" would agree with me on what I said.:loco:

... Just because the experts agree doesn't make it so either.

If you have a six sided dice that is red and orange and the majority of the sides are red, that doesn't mean it is going to roll red every time-- or even the majority of the time for that matter.

I think most football fans believe that given 2 teams with the exact talent, Saban would be Butch most of the time. So, my question is, with Bama beating us on the recruiting trail every year, how can we ever expect to beat them?( at least unitl Saban leaves. ) :question:Just being realistic here...:eek:hmy: :devilsmoke:

Well Ole Miss beat them last year and you could probably insert Hugh Freeze into that sentence and get the same consensus. Especially if you asked it before last season. Upsets happen.

Confidence is a funny thing though, and if we get going this season I'm curious as to how far it could take us. Recruiting rankings do not win games. But they help you build good teams. Tennessee is going to be a good team this year. Good teams can beat anybody.

The perception of Butch Jones would be much different if he stuck around CMU or Cincy for a few more years to pad his record. He had both schools poised to remain 10+ win teams for as long as he was there.

The fact that he left both jobs as soon as he started having success hurt his W/L record.

Hiring Jones in 2014 as opposed to 2012 means a school would likely have gotten a coach with a W/L record in the 72-33 range instead of us getting him at 50-27 (52-27 if you count the bowl games his team won after he left for a new job).

If you haven't noticed on Twitter the coaches are having position groups over to their home's for dinner. But it's the groups they don't coach i.e. Elder had the QBs and Azzani has the DB group. Very cool move.

Choices for media day predictions?

Dobbs, Maggitt, and Sutton are my 3 predictions. I was going to say Hurd but I think he and Barnett go next year (once Sutton goes to the draft and Maggitt graduates).

That's my guess, too. It's possible North, Barnett, Crowder or Kerbyson could go instead of Sutton. I believe Barnett and Crowder were team captains last year.

If the general consensus is we should win a minimum of 8 games this season and maybe as many as 10 if we have some good fortune, how much does that number vary if Dobbs goes down in fall camp or against Bowling Green and is out for the year?

I'd guess we are probably a 5-6 win team, 7 max, without him. Scary to think about.

I just graduated school and I feel old. Start full-time work in a few weeks and feel like there's nothing to look forward to haha

I'd hate to be the coach hosting the oline or dline. Bet Khalil can put some food away.
