Sapp, where's your left hand. I like Peyton also but I heard he doesn't like it when people do that...

A&M was one thing, but Cincy would be getting out of hand.

Not really in favor of it, just speculating what could happen. NC State and Cincy would certainly up our pedigree in basketball.

Also, I think it could be possible that we just take Virginia Tech and UVA. Let the two Virginia schools stay together and increase our academic reputation with UVA.

I know the SEC hoops is pretty bad, but these two programs aren't exactly top tier.. Or second

I agree. But it's tough to imagine schools like NC State and Va Tech not looking enviously at the SEC Network money. Would be a coup for the SEC as well to expand into another state. I could see the conference adding both teams in the future and shifting a few current East teams to the West (or eliminating divisions entirely).

Yeah, it would definitely impact a lot of the college football world. And we would have a HUGE footprint compared to others. But the conference, IMO, would just be way too big. The SEC already makes a ton of money. A lot more money than other conferences. V. Tech and other teams had their chances to get in and didn't. I don't want to see an SEC Championship where we have to have a playoff for it. Although I am sure some on here would like that idea.

State population is key. NC has 10 million and VA has 8.5 million. That's a lot of potential TV viewers.

WV has only 1.8 million.

I agree that WVU makes sense from an athletics standpoint, but I don't see the SEC aggressively seeking them out. But they would absolutely love to get the network in more homes in North Carolina and Virginia.

Plus, the SEC Network's office is in Charlotte.

Good point. According to this WVU brought higher ratings than Va Tech and Virginia. NC State is much higher than I thought they would be.

Lol @ Vandy.

I could see WVU taking precedence if the SEC Network is already in most homes with cable packages in NC and VA (not sure what the numbers look like for those markets). That's really going to the biggest draw in the future for adding more teams.

From that infographic, it looks like WVU fans are very loyal viewers given the size of the state/school, so having a guaranteed 2.3+ million new viewers would certainly be a boon for the Network and the conference.

Although this is about four years old, it's pretty interesting.

Also I was wrong, it's Va Tech that has a small presence in DC.

Good points. VA Tech would be a good cultural fit for the league though. Not sure who they would go after in NC? Maybe NC State but I couldn't see them leaving the other two schools from the triangle.

VT is more tied to UVA than NC State is to Duke and UNC. In fact, if I remember correctly, UVA would actually have to vote to allow VT to leave the ACC.

It appears that the new status quo for conference stability seems to be none at all so I don't think you can say anything in absolutes but, I think the only scenarios where VT joins the SEC is if they came as a package deal with UVA (which UVA would never do). Or it was timed with a move from UVA to another conference (maybe follow UMD to B1G), although the ACC would fight tooth and nail to never let them out.

One week until the Nike unveiling, and then it's two weeks until SEC Media Days and one month until fall camp starts.

Choices for media day predictions?

Dobbs, Maggitt, and Sutton are my 3 predictions. I was going to say Hurd but I think he and Barnett go next year (once Sutton goes to the draft and Maggitt graduates).

I didn't mean to get conf. expansion talk going but this has been interesting.

I agree with a lot said.

1. The SEC, if they ever add two more schools, will be two schools from two different states. Only way the pie pieces continue to get bigger even though you add two more slices.

2. UNFORTUNATLY for us NC and VA are the obvious choices for exansion which is why I hope they don't expand.

3. I agree that the next SEC expansion would be pre-planned but wouldn't happen till another expansion domino fell first. For Example. Big 10 comes down and grabs Virginia and GT. That sends the ACC into a tizzy and Clemson, Miami and FSU up and roll to the Big 12 along with BYU or Cincy or any other team. Then SEC plucks NC St and Virginia and UNC and Duke are like WTF?

Or the Pac 12 could nab Texas and some schools setting off a reaction that causes Oklahoma to break free of OK St.

4. A 16 team league would be really cool but would present challenges for TN if a school is in NC (even though I think NC St would take a long time to get up to speed like SC has). 16 teams each playing 9 conf. games a year. Each team has 3 rivals they play each year. Then the other 6 games rotate between the other 12 teams home and away every 4 years.

Bama - Tennessee, Aub, Miss St (2)
Ark - LSU, A&M, Missouri (1)
Aub - Bama, UGA, Ole Miss (2)
Florida - LSU, UGA, Missouri (2)
Georgia - Florida, Auburn, SC (2)
Kentucky - NC St, Miss St, Vandy (0)
LSU - Florida, A&M, ARK (1)
Missouri - Florida, Arkansas, A&M (1)
Miss St - Alabama, Ole Miss, Kentucky (1)
NC St - South Carolina, VT, Kentucky (0)
Ole Miss - Auburn, Vandy, Miss St (1)
South Carolina - UGA, NC St, VT (1)
Texas A&M - LSU, Arkansas, Missouri (1)
TN - Bama, VT, Vandy (1)
Vandy - Tennessee, Ole Miss, Kentucky (1)
VT - Tennessee, South Carolina, NC St (1)

The number in () is number of BIG 6 matchups per team. No way to get 2 on each BIG 6 team without giving one of the BIG 6 3 which would never be fair.

So to compromise TN and LSU keep the strongest of the new teams VT and A&M to build new rivalries.

Three likely choices along with Kerbyson and Randolph.

Every team in the Sec made more money than Texas and Notre Dame due to the SECN last year.

Even Vanderbilt

They're guaranteed 15 mil per ON TOP of their conference payouts and other packages...you're wrong.

Dobbs and Maggitt for sure. The third is really up in the air. Maybe an older guy who Butch wants to put out there for the university. UT and Butch love to get Dobbs in front of the cameras, plus he's one of the only returning QBs in the league. Maggitt is an older guy who likes his camera time too, so that's a no-brainer.

Who are the other captains?

A 16 team SEC is halfway to NFL-sized and would have enormous power especially with expansion into North Carolina and Virginia. Could honestly have enough power to break away from the NCAA entirely.
