And that OL is still pretty young and inexperienced. This happens every year on VN. Expectations soar through the roof until we get humbled by a good team. Even though our schedule is favorable this year, I'm still looking at an 8 win season. I want 9-10, which I think is possible, but there are parts of this team that still have a lot to prove (OL and LB specifically).

I think you're the only sane one left.

Why???? Half the teams on our schedule don't even know who their QB is yet......

It's just an opinion. Some teams are weaker at QB. Others are weaker at LB and OL. Bama has never had an elite QB, IMO, but they win. But, I don't want this to be about just the QB position. I'm sure I can sit here and tell you how Bama and UGA can beat us, and I'm sure you can tell me how we can beat them. At the end of the day, we still have a relatively young roster, especially at certain positions, and no one on this roster has ever won more than 7 games at UT. I'd wait and see to believe it, and I'll root every step of the way.

Our OL went from bad to good with a change at QB last year. We'll be good on the OL again this year as long as Dobbs stays healthy.

Saying they became good is a bit of an understatement. Dobbs' agility made teams think twice before pinning their ears back and sending the house, but it didn't make them run block any better.

Looking at 247's position rankings, I decided to compile them for an overall ranking. DB rankings aren't out yet, so this is incomplete. But basically, I gave a team 14 points for a top ranked unit, 13 points for a second ranked unit etc. on down to 1 point for a lowest ranked unit.

Hopefully I didn't screw up any of the math (I don't think I did, but no promises). I was surprised to see Arkansas's D so low. I also think the special teams rankings on 247 are weird and probably skew this a little. Anyway, I just thought it was interesting. If there is interest and I have time, I'll update it when the DB rankings come out.

I actually stole this idea from someone on an Auburn board who did the same with some ESPN blogger rankings a while back. ESPN was surprisingly (to me at least) more bullish on us. Here are the rankings he came up with:

OVERALL
87 - Georgia
83 - Tennessee
80 - LSU
76 - Alabama
74 - Auburn
62 - Arkansas
61 - Missouri
61 - Mississippi State
59 - Texas A&M
54 - Ole Miss
49 - Florida
41 - South Carolina
27 - Kentucky
26 - Vanderbilt
Saying we have the 4th best QB is a joke.. We are easily second behind Dak.

aTm qb was pretty good. Arky qb has literally never done anything and everyone saying he's a top qb because he's a 5th year. 4 years of sucking but he's elite now because it's his 5th year.

OL
In addition to the OL improving due to Dobbs being a mobile QB and the OL having more experience this year, I think 2 more things will lead to their improvement:

1) Mike Debord will focus on them.
2) They have to go against our DL in practice everyday in preparation for Saturday's game.

I don't think we can overestimate how important this 2nd point will be. After facing all the returning and new faces on the DL throughout the week (ranked 2nd in the SEC), I think our OL might actually consider most Saturdays to be a breather compared to what they've had to face during the week.

This gives me a confident edge over UGA. I think we get Arkansas as well. If pressed, I think we lose to Bama and Oklahoma. On paper, we lose 2, but I think 3 or 4 will be the reality. If forced, I say 3, with a trip to ATL

Oklahoma won't even be favored in our game. It's for reason, we're going to sandblast them......

Bama is young too. They are banking on soft running Henry and fragile Drake to carry an offense with no proven playmakers at WR. The defense has no proven pass rusher and the secondary is garbage. They have trouble with spread teams that attack the edges. Also have trouble with big WRs. Wonder who has this style of team. :)

The right officiating crew is worth 10-14 points for Bammer before the game even starts. Most SEC officials seem to side with Bammer.

You can't underscore how important the level of competition our OL will face in practice each and everyday. It's adapt and survive...and they'll be adapting to one of the best DL's in the nation every single day.

They're going to be better...perhaps a lot more than we all could anticipate.

Bama-Ole Miss game, CB grabs the running back's facemask, then pokes the ball loose, picks it up and scores. TD Alabama when any and everyone could see the facemask clear enough to yank the kid's head. Play was in open field with only two players engaged. The officials are hilarious in the least.

I think us being 10th in LBs is a joke. So much talent at that position.

I agree that they are underestimating us there. Part of the justification was that they were counting Maggit as a DE (which helped our D-line ranking I assume), but even with that being the case, it seems that they aren't taking into account that we have recruited the LB position very well and are loaded with young LB talent.

Having said all that, I'm sure there are fans of other teams who are convinced one unit or another of theirs has been underrated.

Sal Sunseri was brought in to fix the defense and he will.

Sunseri was brought in as a Coup de Grace for Dooley. Unfortunately, it was very painful for all involved. Hart masterminded the death blow. Even though it was felt throughout the program, it was required. Sucks that it also cost $5M+ as well.
