I mean, there's still going to be a very healthy diet of jet sweeps and short passes because the entire offense is predicated off of the read option But I believe DeBord will attack down the field and across the middle a lot more than Bajakian ever did.

MB just does not like like to do those things for whatever reason although he was hamstrung a bit by the fact that Worley was just not a good medium to long range passer. Nothing changed in his play calling when Dobbs took the reigns though.

I did the same thing about 4 years ago
Tweaked my knee chasing down a baseball. It would swell every time after stairs.
Suspected small meniscus tear... Gave it a month. On call one weekend, it was really starting to hurt. Dropped by my office and gave myself a steroid shot (I am very good at injections :) )
The steroid calmed down the swelling allowing the tear to reattach
Has not bothered me since...
:salute:

That's good to hear. Well, not that you tweaked your knee but that you had a similar issue with a very good outcome. :)

There's no candidate for the job better than Serrano.

I agree with this. If I'm a prospective coach and am looking at Tennessee, I'm thinking if Serrano can't win there something must be wrong with the job.

We can't do much better than him. Just got to give him time.

I'm liking the timing of our spring game this year. Georgia was last week, auburn today. Who else is having one next weekend? We should have a huge crowd of visitors and have the spotlight pretty much all to ourselves.

UT baseball = Kentucky football

I just don't buy this line of thinking regarding any major sport at UT. Without much more than a cursory knowledge of collegiate baseball and potential coaches, there's rarely ever just one coach who can get it done. Sometimes a good coach just isn't a good fit, regardless of his track record.

Serrano doesn't seem to be getting it done but I'm almost completely ignorant to the situation so I won't weigh in on the situation other than to say that keeping with the status quo under poor circumstances because of some sort of belief that the program can do no better than Coach [fill in the blank] is a defeatist attitude.

Good athletic programs, like Tennessee, can and will always be able to hire good coaches. It simply requires the propper leadership and support from the administration and athletic department.

That's not to say that Serrano can or cannot succeed here, just my take on the potential of the baseball program and it's ability, perceived or otherwise, to hire a top quality coach.

Serrano recruited the guys he has. They are not good at this point outside of a handful. If he can't recruit and develop the right guys to fit his MO, then it will be time to make a change. I am inclined to give him another year or two and hope this year is an aberration. The guy is a proven winner and knew what he was getting into as he was walking in the door having been here under Delmonico. Even USCe headed down when they had a groomed second in command take over. No guarantee that anybody else will get it done either.

On football - I agree with VolsnCards5, which is unusual for us - slants, slants and more slants. The forgotten play in Jake's playbook that is present and used in all successful spread offenses. Moves the secondary into coverages and llanes to stop it, which frees the sideline and deep routes as well as helping the read option be effective. When done with quick timing reduces the possibility of a sack. With an experienced QB it is very effective. Cost Worley a lot of pain by not using them.

The thing about Serrano is that he has recruited well and continues to do it. But he has had several get drafted and go pro. College baseball is a different animal. You either have to recruit players who aren't good enough to go pro but develop into good players or those who tell you they want to go to college. He has taken two other programs to the CWS, so he can obviously develop and lead players to success. I am one for keeping him for at least another year or two. I believe he has another good class coming in .

Was he gone by that point?

Mike DeBord was on Michigan's coaching staff during during the 2004 season in which Braylon Edwards completed his senior year by winning the Biletnikoff Award, winning the Big Ten's Conference MVP Award, and being named a unanimous 1st-Team All American WR.

DeBord wasn't the OC by official title during the 2004 season, but I would be willing to bet he definitely played a large part in Michigan's offensive playcalling for the 2004 season. DeBord was previously Michigan's OC for several seasons a few years before 2004 and I believe once again took over as Michigan's OC the following season.

Ridiculous notion. If he fails, he fails--and that's on him. Not the school. And he's failing big time right now.

There are plenty of coaches who will be able to get it done here. This is the Bruce Pearl mentality all over again, except Bruce actually won. Serrano hasn't achieved jack and it's year 4.

He will almost certainly get a 5th season, but he will need to deliver some great results to keep his job. No reason to keep a guy based on his previous track record if he's not getting it done here. Guys with great W/L records at the lower levels of sports get called up to the "big leagues" and fail all the time.

Haha, I didn't realize we disagree a lot. Glad we agree on this

Key to a good knee injection, make the doc use a 25 gauge needle. The Higher the gauge, the smaller the bore of the needle.

Most docs use a bigger bore because that's the way they were taught. Bigger bore = more painful.

sorry we are @1,000 miles apart.
I wish I was able to come to the O&W game. Could give you the shot while tailgating :)
