He will prob still have surgery. As was said a couple of posts ago, they have to wait for the swelling to go down.

Ah missed that post. Still the way everything was described I worried about far more than a broken nose, jaw, etc.

The broken eye socket could be the worst part. I know this from experience. I had both eye sockets broken at the same time, along with both sides of my jaw, the roof of my mouth and had my nasal/sinuses crushed. I had to wait a week for the swelling to go down before they could do surgery.

I'm hesitant to post specifics because of HIPAA. I haven't worked since Sunday night so I have no knowledge of his chart. I was updated by another coach this morning.

All I can say is its really really bad and he will probably require several surgeries.

It's getting bad. Too many kids that don't respect their elders. They feel like Kings with no consequences to their actions until they find themselves dead or in prison. It's like kids aren't taught anymore that there is a barrier you don't cross.

Its the same thing that every generation says about the one that succeeds it.

Dang. Combat?

BB sounds like you experienced VERY similar injuries.

What you described is what we refer to as a "floating face".

Have you heard what sparked the guy to go off like that? I have heard that the coach was rude to him and insulted him. And, please don't get the idea that I think anything that the coach said justifies what the idiot did. Apparently, the kid had no history of any problems.

All of this is wrong

BB could you tell me if you suffered any TBI along with your injuries? It sounds like you had one heck of an experience.

lol....That is exactly what it was (may have been named because of me). The doctor told me after surgery that he could literally hold my head still and move the center of my face. the only thing holding it there was skin and muscle.

Fine Doctor at Vanderbilt put me back together. 7 titanium plates, 2 pieces of titanium mesh and 50 titanium screws holding my head together now.

Glad you recovered from that. Sounds like an awful experience. That's an amazing amount of facial reconstruction.

That happened seven years ago.

To this day the inside of my head feels like it is burning, but I have no feeling on the outside. My eyes constantly feel like....I guess the best way to describe it would be.....Like I have a sinus infection. Went from having better than perfect vision to wearing trifocals. My jaw always hurts and my sinus passage is screwed.

On the bright side.....a couple of years ago I had a student come out of left field on the side of head with a solid punch. He about pissed himself when I didn't go down. I didn't feel it. Unfortunately for him, I'm a retired Marine and not quite as nice as the Riverdale Coach. He was an adult, and got his ass beat like one.

Did they say, "WE CAN REBUILD HIM, WE HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY!"

To answer the TBI question. No. At least not that I'm aware of. I was told that it probably wouldn't have taken more than a half pound to a pound of pressure to have killed me, so I consider myself truly lucky that I didn't have any.

Damn. Those are some pretty nasty things to have linger. I don't know how I'd get through the constancy of the pain in particular.

You know I was gonna say you're now like Wolverine. That student was lucky he didn't break his hand punching you, although that would've been very funny in my twisted opinion. And I don't blame for defending yourself. He earned every bit of it.

You know that metal plate in my head? I had to have it replaced, cause every time Catherine revved up the microwave I'd piss my pants and forget who I was for a half hour or so. So over at the VA they had to replace it with plastic. It ain't as strong so I don't know if I should go sailin down no hill with nothing between the ground and my brains but a piece of government plastic.
