No idea why we assume this would be an upgrade

A very very inexperienced coach taking the place of one that has a long lengthy resume of Bigtime experience with very high level players

Seems like a risk to me unless we are blinded Because he is a VFL

How do you get two VERYS out of 3 years? I put in the caveat that it was MY OPINION. You failed to sway me with YOURS. Butch had two years to get a feel for his aptitude, so if Martinez takes another job and Fair is hired as his replacement, our "assumptions" would be somewhat validated. If not? We hire somebody else and you can get back to work on convincing Strip to retire. :)

If you discount his previous work at Tennessee ...they called it coaching.
I'm not questioning his ability to coach technique, but there's more to coaching than that. That means he's only been able to recruit off campus and everything else GAs can't do for a year.

I wouldn't hate the hire, but if Butch makes it his first and only call I would be disappointed

I know some people want to see certain assistants move on due to perceived lack of performance, but I actually hope Azzani and Martinez get these promotions so that Butch can start to develop a reputation as a guy who molds his assistants and helps them advance. I think it would help to attract high level coaching talent.

Martinez was also a former DC. He has a ton of experience besides being a position coach. I'm not saying Fair wouldn't do well, but Martinez brings a lot to the table.

Hope not. I haven't seen any progression from Dobbs this year as far as passing goes. Maybe those of you who are more in tune with qb technique do.

Go back and look at fall camp video from 2014. There has been a ton of progression from Dobbs. I don't know how much of that can be attributed to Sheridan, but it's there.

Spot. On.

Fanbase is blinded by their orange blood.

"Peyton to OC, Tee to WR Coach, Fair to DB coach, Al Wilson as LB coach!!!!!"

I would prefer that we bring in a proven coach that can recruit. That said, Jones has seen Terry Fair up close and knows if he can do the job so if he does go that route I would support it. If he doesn't go that route, I will trust CBJ.

Same with me. I am only saying on paper it would be a downgrade

I trust butch here and would love to have a VFL on staff but that doesn't change what it looks like on paper

If this is even needed, I wouldn't worry.

You know something else paper's good for? :crap2:

He's made a ton of progression but still misses wide open receivers regularly? I think he's exactly as inaccurate as he has been, he wasn't THAT bad to start out here that even after tons of progression he's still missing several per game.

If credentials affecting recruiting is a concern, this could be a good year to remedy that.

If sutton returns, and does well next year, he could be a round 1 selection in the 2017 draft And T Fair could add that to his resumé on the recruiting trail. Same with Martin/kelly/Gaulden in the next couple of years.

This isn't really an either/or argument. The possibility of Fair replacing Martinez only comes into play if Martinez VOLUNTARILY takes another job. My personal opinion (among other) that Fair will technically improve our DBs will have no effect on WM's resume. I'm not hiring anyone. :hi:

Good for Martinez if he gets that job. DC at your alma mater employed by your good friend? That's pretty cool

Yep can't hate a man for a promotion. It would be interesting to watch the Richt/Martinez combo again. They had a lot of success at UGA for awhile. Martinez is a no brainer to try and get on the staff in some way for Richt with S Fla connections.

We prob would def give Fair a strong look. Strong recruiter and is familiar with our scheme. I noticed talk that he wasn't on field coach. That is true in games but he was in booth in games and able to work with them in practice. If Butch hires Fair then we should feel comfortable that Butch has obviously seen something in him in action.
