Why are you drilling the semantics on this? That's essentially what everyone else has been saying.

I understand what you are saying about semantics but I think there is a key difference in saying we need a QB coach and what I am saying. Adding a QB changes the structure of the entire staff and 100% isn't necessary IMO. The proof of that is that most programs don't have a coach assigned to QBs ONLY.

Most of us aren't arguing with him or quoting bruin because he is on our ignore list....
Just a little something for you to ponder...

From the beginning I thought it was weird that Shoop didn't bring anyone with him. Usually a DC brings some of his assistants.

Don't know if this says more about Butchs plan or Shoops plan. I'm sure if Shoop stays he will bring his ppl in on the defensive side of the ball next yr.

Needs some guys that can relate to these players. I've never seen a DB group not have "dropped INTs". I mean we aren't getting any deflections or anything as a group. Justin Coleman for example went to the pros and immediately started playing the ball better. I wouldn't mind going after a former pro DB coach to coach them as well. Our guys should be better. The lack of production from them is ridiculous for two years in a row. Moseley has one interception in 3 years as a starter and he's gotten PLENTY of action.

Bama would maul everyone

Hurts can't throw and I think the Buckeyes would play up to their talent level versus them. Only team I've seen that can match them talent wise overall. They're lackadaisical but could definitely match Bama up and down talent wise for 4 quarters. And they won't be outcoached either.

I just think people who are saying QB coach are including in that OCs with a good QB coaching track record.

I can go for that for sure. I have seen some people suggesting Debord coach OL amd hiring a QB coach. That makes zero sense to me as I don't think an OC can coach OL and implement game plans.

Does any OC currently do that?

Just don't think there's any way that Butch blows up the staff unless guys leave on their own.

At most I can see DeBord "retiring" and getting replaced with an OC/QB coach and Mahoney getting fired/replaced. Shoop may demand some changes on his side of the ball too, though, which could be interesting.

Agreed

I think from the beginning that Butch thought Shoop would be enough to put us over the hump, and the reason we didn't see as much turnover in the rest of the staff (offense and defense) is that Butch was afraid that too much change would be detrimental. Especially with the limitations of Dobbs.

We need to finish strong. Last thing we need is another hot seat coach searching for staff.

That would be a lot to take on. QB is the only position I would want an OC doubling up with.

Except that Dobbs can't throw and makes terrible decisions.

Smart off the field. Not so smart on it.

Ha ha. Dobbs makes better decisions than most. He had a terrible game last week. It happens to everyone if they play this game long enough. He's certainly not perfect, but he's a winner, he's tough and gives his all for Tennessee. That's enough for me. UT would not have 5 wins without him!

As for your criticism of Dobbs not being smart on the field until you have walked in his shoes and faced what he faces every Saturday you have no right to Say that about him.

Dobbs has the heart of a Tennessee Volunteer and I question anyone who thinks otherwise!

So OC...

Candidates?

RR- should he get fired this would be a great hire. I'm not sure it happens though.

Canada- should have been hired 2 years ago. Also listed as QB coach.

Tony Franklin- think he could do a great job. Not sure about the QB development though.

Tedford- I think this would be a Grand Slam hire.

I throw out a wild name that probably has as much of a chance as I do- Steve Sarkisian

No, he's OC in waiting.

Agreed. Will be interesting to see if Butch takes a hard look at the program after this season and makes changes.

Vols will likely enter 2017 picked to finish 3rd or so in the East, so the expectations for major success won't be there, but he may be coaching for his job with a new AD. So does he make any wholesale changes and roll the dice in order to improve position units from average to good?

My guess is no...but we are 4 years in with guys like Thig, Martinez, Azzanni, and Gillespie. Other teams may come calling for them, and we may see some changes that aren't of his choosing.
