Until UT has a real QB coach it's completely impossible to Blame Dobbs, he has talent but it's obvious watching him that he hasn't been coached properly. I wonder what David Cutcliff would do with Dobbs. I suspect after 4 years of his coaching Dobbs would be much more proficient passer than he is now.

Because of scheme. Not natural passing ability

We are having two different debate: 1) coaching to ability, and 2) natural ability as a passer that can be improved by a good coach. Still has to start with natural ability. See Tim Tebow - not a great passer but schemes to his strengths

Dobbs problem is he is almost too smart for the game and thinks too much. Too robotic through his progressions and movements. It's why he is better when he is running around and can't think in the pocket. He has too many cooks in the kitchen. Gets taught prostyle techniques in summer and read option in fall. Jake is also a better teacher at QB for this offense than Debord or Sheridan. Need someone like a Rich Rod to properly teach the read/pass/run options. Dobbs making some horrible/horrendous reads this year

I can buy that for sure although I thought Debord had coached QBs before.

To say we need a QB coach means restructuring the way the staff is made up. I disagree with that because many other successful teams with great QBs have the same structure Tenn has now.

To say we need a new OC that coaches QBs better is fair to say for sure.
The examples you gave are wrong. Those guys are designated QB coaches.

Dobbs often shows bad mechanics and still makes terrible decisions with the football.

Dobbs also improved greatly between 2013 and 2014 when Mike Bajakian, now an NFL QB coach, was on staff.

He has not really improved since then and may have even regressed in some ways. Pretty clear that not having an actual QB coach on the staff hurt his development.

Makes it even more frustrating that we try to make him sit in a pocket to throw the ball. Let him freelance at QB...1st read, maybe 2nd read, and if neither are there, take off and make something happen. Why can't coaches making millions or hundreds of thousands of $$$$ not see this is how Dobbs plays his best football. I just don't get it.

I am not a football expert, but I am not sure it is exactly that easy. Dobbs can't just simply look at one read and then run. He wouldn't make it through a game.

I do agree they could move the pocket a little more, but I am still not sure how accurate he would be. His best throws are down the middle within about 20 yards. Somehow you have to establish the run a bit and then hit seams and posts with play action.

I love the kid, but I will be interested to see how the passing game looks without him.

I totally agree, it's been reported multiple times that Debord spends most of his time with the Oline, and Sheridan is a quality control guy now, which means the only time he is with the Qbs is in the film room, hard to improve when there is no actual hands on, on the field training.

His poor fundamentals, his footwork when throwing from the pocket have more to do with his inaccuracies than any of his decision making. Your right about Jake being a better QB coach, but as the OC his his running offenses and play calling were lacking and NOT productive at UT and that's why he's no longer here. UT needs an OC that can coach QB's and coordinate the entire offense including the running game.

Deep ball is much better but he's not being helped by the staff at all.

Hey Breakerboy I like your incite on the defensive side of the ball, and I was just wondering what your thoughts where on bringing in Shoop but not letting him bring in some of his own guys. Sorry little off topic I know.

GAMEDAY just said Jeff Tedford is an offensive consultant for Washington.

I remember his offense putting up huge numbers.

What would Cut do with Dobbs? Bench him and put someone else in.

SENSE most of "his people" advanced to higher positions at Penn State, I'm not sure how much it was about "allow". :dunno:

I think we need new DB and LB coaches that can coach better than they recruit(and still recruit at a high level). 😎😎😎😎😎

I seriously doubt that, if you have watched Duke under Cut, they are a spread team that runs the read option. Dobbs would fit his offenses perfectly at Duke.

And not just that, but the text box actually defaults to the field to enter my address in the ad instead of the reply field.
