Shoop gets a pass. First year, none of his assistant coaches. He changes his terminology to fit what the D already used. He analyzes what he has in live action this season, instead of helping develop them and knowing what he has over previous seasons. The roster he is using is not his for most part other than a few players he would have recruited, but he has not developed them until this year. He had no input to speak of in the S&C, that was already decided by and in use by Butch. Then the injuries happen with All SEC players going down along with other dependable guys.

The O had to step up this season. It should have if it was going to. It didn't. They can fix it the rest of the games and finish strong.

Yeah Hurd is just a quitter, I think he intended that post to make him look better but it really just cemented the impression of him being selfish.

Also, my sister whom is in the same social circles as a lot of the players said they weren't so upset over the Hurd news. Apparently McKenzie said that Hurd rarely even participated with the team during practice.

I guess that's why he was always in a green jersey during practice. CBJ let him get away with it.

IF Kamara comes back healthy we've got the best tandem in the country. That's this year and next year(if somehow he decides to come back). IMO

I know it is crazy, but I just have this feeling that if we dig deep and win out and get to the SEC Champ game, I think both JRM and Kamara shock everyone and come back... there has already been back channel talk of folks advising JRM to come back and Kamara would be poised to possibly be the #1 RB picked in next year's draft instead of being one of 5-6 coming out this year....

Agree. He blames the non-disclosure of injuries that shouldn't have been disclosed. And he says he knew the scheme wasn't a fit but is leaving in part due to it. He wants to be 'showcased' instead of a team member. And he makes no excuse for quitting mid-season (not that there would be a good one). I personally think he would have served himself better to stay quiet. As it is, I have little respect for him.

Agree. Went down in flames kamikaze style, when he could have parachuted out before the plane hit the target. That stuff will hurt him with the NFL. They do psychological studies on the players before draft day.

Good to see you posting again. Was worried about you and Sam.

So who all is giving Stripling a pass as a coach?

Do you feel the D-line has performed up to their talent level? Outside of Barnett in particular because he's been a beast since he first hit campus.

I'm Watching Alabama D-lineman(trying to develop some new drills for the offseason) and they are so much stronger at the point technique wise than us it's crazy. Daron Payne and Allen are two I'm tracking in particular. I haven't seen that out of our line at all this year. Well outside of Barnett. And he trains with Chuck Smith in the offseason I think.

Definitely thought we would see K-mac separate himself a little more this season and start to show some true 5* dominance now that he has a year under his belt and has managed his weight. Not saying he wasn't doing a fine job up until his injury, but definitely did not see the push and disruption I think most thought we would start to see....

Cam Sutton will excel in a specific system - somewhere like Pittsburgh, Seattle, where they want physical corners.

Tabor will excel with more teams as I think he is the better cover corner except against JJ15.

I've noticed that even our rival fans think he's a loser.

Everyone knows he was the main starter, so it wasn't like he was sitting on the bench waiting for his chance.

I agree, but there's something to be said for being useful against more than 1 person on the field. Tabor covers his guy and nothing else. Cam covers his guy almost as well, but if the RB runs to his side, he's probably going to fight off his block, make the tackle, and save a bunch of yards. Maybe that extra cover ability really is worth it, but I see Cam making more money long term than Tabor.

And it wasn't like he wasn't productive as he was in-line to be the school's leading rusher, in 3 years. Honestly, they were too loyal to him this year - he didn't run with the effort and didn't have the production of the other backs but he still got the majority of the carries.

Everyone I've heard in Arkansas wants him to finish his career for the Hogs. The consensus around the water cooler and talk radio here is Butch is clueless about how to run an offense and Hurd would kill it at Arky, Bama, LSU. Very little criticism for Hurd, and LOTS of criticism for Butch, at least from talk radio hosts and callers and all my hog fan coworkers. No one likes the quitting part though, which is what's going to hurt him the most. Transferring the right way would have saved him so many millions.

Maybe a little bit of that but This defense hasn't been prepared for games at all. They have been atrocious in the 1st quarter. Even Saturday An OVC terrible offense went right down the field to start the game.

I have zero confidence that Shoop with have the defense ready to stop the wild cat. We should win the game but it will be by out scoring them.

Shoop stopped taking his smart pills after signing with us amirite? He just got so stooopid, so fast..That's a thick layer of sarcasm for you folks that don't have detectors.

I know it sounds funny, but he looked too light for the role in fall camp to me. He needs to play at 315-320 as the D is currently designed for DT's IMO. He needed to be more Shy's size. The SEC has some powerful O-linemen and I don't think out-quicking them is K-Mac's game. Quay Picou is the guy to play the old Owen Wiliams quickness role.

Yea its not like he has had a full deck to play with this season except maybe the first couple of games.

Kamara had on a sizeable brace Saturday when walking out for the coin toss. Sutton didn't appear to have any type of brace. Both were moving fine... no visible limp. Would love to have them both back this week.

No question Hurd has come off bad in this. Quitting with only four games left gained him nothing. He's still going to have to sit out a year if he wants to transfer... or diffuse a negative situation if he wants to be drafted. He could have sat the final four games and said this year's dropoff was due to nagging injuries and come out much better.

I really hope to see Kamera out there with Kelly and I hope we come out with the same attack attitude as last week. Get Malone involved early and JJ also. It just changes everything with those two RB's available.

I think everyone knows that it was sarcasm. Problem is, that particular angle doesn't get any more effective the more people use it.

Yes, everyone knows that Shoop didn't get dumb overnight. But he is one of the several coaches that need to do a better job. Maybe him not so much as certain others, because he is good at making adjustments, but I'm with Bruin, he needs to make better calls early in the game (you want to be a million dollar DC, expect this sort of criticism).

People are still trying to find logic in this Hurd situation. If you're still buying that this whole deal happened because he wants to transfer and play another position then it's never going to make sense to you.

There's a 90% or better chance that he enters the draft this spring.

If you believe he quit then yeah it was incredibly dumb on his part.

Edit: I tend to believe he quit/refused to play and was being a terrible teammate and they booted him.

And goes undrafted
