If you believe he quit then yeah it was incredibly dumb on his part.

Edit: I tend to believe he quit/refused to play and was being a terrible teammate and they booted him.

No doubt his attitude had taken a nosedive. Some of the players may not have liked him, but they didn't boot him.

I guarantee you his hand was forced if he, indeed, refused to play in the second half of the USC game. I went back and watched some of that game, and you can definitely see Dobbs approach him after the fumble when CFA hits the ball. I don't believe the timing is a coincidence.

Siap, any injuries this weekend? I didn't get to watch the whole game, but saw Berry and Bain go out.

Hurd was not one of the more popular players. Resentment had been festering since camp. CBJ let some players decide when they needed to wear a green jersey or skip practice, which created friction. And Kamara and Kelly are both very well-liked by their teammates and formed a close bond that excluded Hurd.

I don't doubt that Hurd got some "Bye Felicia" responses when he told a group of teammates that he was going to leave the program. All I know is the team did not vote to boot him in a meeting Sunday night. Hurd's gone, and Kelly is getting the PT he deserves. Not a bad deal for UT.

sidebar: I'm an 8 star now! After lurking for a couple years I joined about the time coach CPF was let go. Remember the team carrying him off the field after we knocked off Kentucky that year and then the excitement we all had on here after Lane Kiffin's introductory press conference.

8 years has flown by. Thanks to Freak and others who do such a great job with this site.

Berry has a right ankle injury. May be a high ankle sprain. They haven't released when he will be available.

When did this happen? I thought he just got cut over the eye? Can we go just one single game without someone getting hurt for the next game? We need Foreman, Kamara, and Sutton back, like yesterday.

Here's a post from Lynxvol last week. LWS seems to agree with what I believe to be true. Hurd was booted and he is entering the 2017 draft.

Not sure what you are referring to, but this is from TOS in regards to what Hubbs said about Hurd having to sit out a year no matter what:

Hubbs has researched this. according to rules, when you only have one year left you must sit a year even if transferring down to D-2 level. He has to sit a year no matter where he goes.

I beginning to believe (this is speculation) that Butch gave Hurd an option. I think he may have told him, I can announce your transferring or I can announce you have been dismissed for a violation of team rules. Which do you prefer?

To make a decision to transfer with having to sit a year makes no sense. I think he ends up in draft in 2017

Also, I believe that the position change/transfer talk was all made up by Hurd and his camp to spin this story to make it not look so bad on their part. Quitting makes him look like a terrible teammate as does getting booted with 4 games left. Transferring/position/scheme change story makes them look maybe a little less selfish but incredibly stupid (temporarily) until they finish up this semester and they can announce he's entering the draft.

I heard them discussing the transfer situation on the radio. Apparently, Hurd can stay enrolled at UT and graduate academically in the spring. If he does, then he can transfer wherever and play next year. I do agree with you though, he will probably declare.

I saw him walking to the locker room and he seemed to be moving fine, thought it might be a concussion or the eye.

And that's why I left that 10% chance that he transfers. If he finds a way to play sooner or if he thinks his stock has completed tanked and can be saved by one good season then maybe he transfers. But that's still a small chance. Best thing he can do is enter the draft, hope to hang around long enough to make a second contract in the league.

With our serious need for DT and OL, why doesn't CBJ and his staff look more towards the JR. College ranks? There are still a number of 4 and 3 star DT's and OL on the JR. College board (or steal some recruits from Miss State). Granted it's a short term fix but might allow them some time to recruit and redshirt some high school players. It seems to me we should be recruiting at least 4-5 DT's and about the same OL each year.
