as the university of tennessee winds towards the conclusion of its search for a chancellor, the school is nearly through the interviews phase and, per multiple sources throughout the state, is zeroing in on beverly j. Davenport as its leading candidate.

Some folks indicated davenport, the interim president at the university of cincinnati and previously the school’s senior vice president for academic affairs and provost, was the runaway leader at this point.

Others likewise indicated a strong desire from ut leadership to tab a female to its top knoxville post.

Davenport owns previous stops at purdue, virginia tech and kansas; she earned degrees from both western kentucky and harvard before she obtained a phd from the university of michigan.

there’s considerable scuttle about a nonprofit program getting off the ground in the midstate to assist the training of area football players that would have the backing of select folks, perhaps some with either current or former direct ties to the tennessee football program. Details are hard to come by, but it could set the stage for a rather interesting landscape for training athletes in the metro-nashville and murfreesboro areas.
