What do you guys think about shutting Kirkland down for the year? I would save him in case an emergency situation arises. Jumper has def proved his worth and has really came together nicely with the defense. I would like to see Kirkland come in as a redshirt soph for 2017 and start fresh.

Not only no..but heck no. We need every hand on deck to finish this season out. Jumper tries, but he is not fast or strong enough.

no way. We need him badly.

So we are going with this lineup into South Carolina:

QB - Dobbs, Dormady
RB - Hurd, Kelly, Fils-aime
WR - Malone, Jennings, Smith, Byrd, Johnson
TE - Wolf, Croom
LT - Kendrick, Richmond
LG - Robertson, Boulware
C - Thomas, Wiesman
RG - Wiesman, Jones
RT - Hall, Thomas

DE - Barnett, Kongbo, Phillips
DT - Vickers, Phillips, Mixon
DT - Tuttle, Picou, Kongbo
DE - Vereen, Lewis
OLB - McDowell, Berry
ILB - Kirkland, Jumper
CB - Moseley, Buchanan Martin
CB - Foreman, Buchanan, Martin
NG - Gaulden, Foreman
S - Kelly Jr
S - Abernathy, Warrior, Berry

If true, we will roll. Getting the OL and LBs healthy are key.

Looks good to me. Win out with that roster.

Plus add back Kamara and Sutton for the last 2 and it's not as bad as some (myself included) think.

No. He isn't going to be here 5 years anyway. Also there is very little risk on playing after a high ankle sprain

The problem is that Kirkland is good enough to go to the NFL. I don't think he would make it 5 years. May as well play him when healthy. Plus, we need 10-2 for our program and for our fans. I am afraid some of our fans will fall off the deep end if we don't.

Absolutely not. They're not going to play him unless he's healthy.

Put the best guys on the field.

I see a 0% chance we would ever see him as a RS senior. He'll probably leave after next year but even if he doesn't he's not gonna play 3 more college seasons

IF we can stay relatively healthy down the stretch, there's a decent chance the only key players missing by TTU or so will be JRM, O'Brien, McKenzie, Williams, and Sapp, and only 3 of those would be due to injuries.

While it's rough to lose those 5 players, that's pretty standard for a CFB season.

Unfortunately, that emergency is now.

So he's not fast of strong enough to have beaten VT, Fl, GA and almost aTm? I agree we need all able bodies but if his ankle was tweeked more last week. I would want him to get fully healthy

Agreed. Especially if Phillips and Kongbo provide good play at DT. Jones seemed high on Phillips during his press conference today.

Yep. Plus these teams we play the last 5 games aren't just gonna maul us on the DL.

We can survive this 5 game stretch with Picou, Phillips, and Kongbo filling in some.

Plus I didn't say he would stay five years but I just think Jumper has came together nicely with the current defense and has filled in great. With how we are dropping like flies I wouldn't want to see Kirk play one play get hurt again. I think we would still go 10-2 without kirk.

Love the WSU player calling UCLA douchey and trying too hard to look tough because they were trying to act tough by using their opponents side of the field to warm up.

And if those people can't understand that the beatdown against Alabama was greatly exacerbated by rampant injuries to many of our most important players then that is on them for lacking the ability to think critically. We pulled our roster out of the gutter and had our starting lineup prepared to match up with upper echelon programs. Our depth is obviously not to that point yet. Our depth is still at the point where it can't compete against the depth of Alabama. And it sure as hell isn't too the point that our depth can compete against a healthy Alabama roster.

That's the problem I see and I can understand is that next year, many of these players that played Saturday will be asked to contribute next year, many in a prominent role. I'm not sure I have any level of confidence we are in a better position to compete with Bama that we were the last couple of years. Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think we've closed the gap on Bama much at all over the last couple of years. If you look at the people we have missing, most wouldn't have been here next year anyway. Here's the list and forgive me if I've missed anyone:

Defense

JRM -Gone
Sutton - Gone
Danny O'brien Gone
Kirkland - Back
Martin - Back (Not Starting)
Sapp - Back (not Starting)
KMac - Back (Not Starting)
Forman - Gone

Offense

Wiseman - Gone
Hall - Back
Robertson - Back
Kendrick - Back
Jones - Back
Thomas - Back

Keep in mind that the injuries on the offensive side are to O-lineman that were much maligned all season.

(For the life of me I can't understand why Austin Sanders can't see the field.)

If you look at the players (major contributors) that are not hurt, that will either be out of eligibility or are likely entering the draft:

Barnett
Hurd
Kamara
Dobbs
Vereen

I see the gap between Alabama and Tennessee widening. Don't see the stars on the roster to replace the ones leaving other than a couple.

Just to make it easy, if he isn't going to play 5 years, then you play him now. You would lose him as an asset.

Even if he is injured again, he will heal for next season.

Exactly.

Would be interesting what the mood would be in here if that A&M kicker shanked one more FG in OT.

Instead of being back to the Dooley years we'd be deciding if we were a 2,3 or 4 seed once we won out.

SMH y'all swing way too up and down

I don't think the A&M game really has one ioda to do with the mood. I think the evisceration by Bama is 100% responsible for the mood.

Do you think Kirk at 75% without playing hardly any football this year would help or hurt as opposed to rolling with Jumper at 100% that has played ok most of the year?
