Think about this for a second.

Had Tennessee beat Socar we would have the SEC East basically locked up, likely top 8 and getting ready to play Bama for a Playoff spot. Crazy how one game can change your season that much

Had App State recruited a decent kicker, the season implodes week 1.

Bunch of weak games next week. Oklahoma vs WVU and Florida vs LSU is only good ones. Louisville vs Houston on Thursday night may be interesting

Why should Louisville get in over them? If WVU beats OU, they deserve it more than Louisville imo

Because they're better. UL would also have a win over Houston, who beat OU. Only loss would be to another playoff team in Clemson. Big 12 is worst P5 conference.

If they win out I don't see how you let Louisville in over them just because they beat a bad fsu team.

FSU, regardless of the fact they shouldn't be ranked, will be unless beaten by UF and they scored 63 on them. They also took Clemson to the wire and Clemson will probably be in the playoff. Having the Heisman winner will probably push a lot of the voters to put them in over a Wva team that no one cares about.

Louisville has crushed everyone minus the game they lost and the game they stuggled with UVa.

WVa struggled with Mizzou, BYU, K St, TX, and lost by 17 to a mediocre Ok St team.

Louisville hasn't beaten anyone but a bad fsu team, so I'd say their record is similar with conference champion being the tie breaker. Houston has some bad losses too.

I'm not arguing that Louisville won't get the spot, just that they shouldn't. Winning the big 12 with one loss is more impressive to me than what Louisville has done.

That's odd though..I never ever felt like Appy was going to win that game. If we just ran the offense, it would have been a massive blowout. It felt like a gnat buzzing around your head that you could squash at any second if you really put your mind to it, but you just keep halfheartedly keep swatting at, hoping it will just fly away.

For the record. TN beat App St who if they won today would be leading their conference. They fell late to Troy who is leading the Sun Belt instead and Troy took Clemaon to the wire. The Vols beat VaTech who now have the same record as Vols, are ranked, and who are tied for the division lead in the Coastal. Tied with VaTech are the Tarheels, whom UGA handled in the ipener. TN beat the division leading Ohio Bobcats of the MAC who share a 7-3 record also. They beat a top twenty UF, going away, but the Gators are still ranked. They beat a top twenty-five UGA team who just beat the ninth ranked team in the nation. The Vols lost to two top ten teams, one by a sliver. The only bad loss was USCjr. We all know that. And, it would appear as though there were locker room shenanigans afoot all the while dealing with these injuries.

You see I'm a half full kind of guy. I love this team. I can make an informed, positive argument on behalf of this team because... Well they are good and a lot better than people like you give them credit for.
Truth

we probably arent getting any respect from the poll voters because we are injured as hell, the offense is anemic 75% of the time, and the defense would make swiss cheese look like the wall of china. i love my vols but we aint scaring nobody.

I wonder if Butch would try to find a place for Rich Rod on the staff if he is fired by Arizona? He is probably gone after this year.

They're going to blow us out again in ATL.
What does that have to do with discussing where we would be ranked if healthy? Absolutely nothing.

Our offense has been worse.
PPG aren't much different, even with all the injuries and Hurd drama. Season ain't over yet either. If you're paying attention to what I'm responding to then realize I'm talking about a fully healthy team.

You all realize we would have been 8 when the initial playoff polls came out and given the chaos that happened today we have have been sitting at 4!

All if we hadn't mailed it in against USC.

Still unacceptable and one thing I am still not over.

It's warranted. We could've beaten Scar with better coaching, absolutely no doubt.

I have such mixed feelings about this season.

On the one hand, we're 7-3 for the first time since...?? And barring another massive letdown should finish the regular season 9-3 for the first time since 2007 (Quick side note - I remember being disappointed that we were 9-3 in '07 and "backed into" the SECCG. If I only knew...). We beat both Florida and Georgia. We won, and dominated the last 3 quarters, the largest CFB game in history.

On the other hand, we lost to a very bad USCe team, essentially costing us a top 10-15 ranking and potentially more. We look sloppy and undisciplined every single game. The worst rash of injuries I've ever seen in my 20 years as a Vols fan.

In the grand scheme of things I will be happy with 9-3 considering all of the injuries and the fact we beat both UF and UGA.

But I want to see us play the type of football that we played in 2015 for the rest of this season. Tough, angry, and disciplined.

I think there is 0% chance that just by changing the USC outcome that we would be in the playoff hunt.

Even changing both USC and A&M I think it's pretty unlikely.

The reason: we were, rightfully, punished in the polls for looking like a talented but undisciplined and therefore inconsistent team for the first 6 weeks and then getting the brakes beat off of us in week 7.

Instead, I'd suggest that you revisionists go back and demote Hurd to third string at the beginning of the season. Not saying that to pile on Jalen at all, I honestly believe it after the 6 weeks.

I remember one specific run against ASU where Hurd broke into the open field and ran right up Jashon's back 8 yards down the field. Either Kelly or Kamara breaks that and goes 77 or whatever yards for the score and that's a totally different game. Even a 30 yarder possibly envigorates the team, IMO. Instead we don't get a big play until Malone's catch in the 4th(?).
