Anybody that saw JJ play in HS, as Volatil stated, knew that if he did not play QB at UT he should be the starting safety as a true freshman. He is a first round NFL pick waiting to happen as a S. He is not used enough to be a WR, which is understandable when you have Malone and other solid talent at that position waiting to emerge and be given a shot like Callaway, Johnson, and others. Those two alone are game breakers and they sit the bench. When added to Malone and occasional use of Smith and Wolf, you have all you need in the passing game in this offense. JJ has the dog about the ball. He also likes to mix it up, has good speed/quickness, and knows how to use his body for the best effect. He will light people up. If covering a TE, he would win most of the battles. Picture JJ playing centerfield, see the formations/motion/game situations with his offensive mindset. Then picture what happens next as the play unfolds and the dog takes over. Makes me happy just thinking about it as well as sad that he is not used there.

Abernathy is a corner. BrB and I agree on this. He has really good quickness/coverage skills and will try to locate the ball. He comes up enough to make tackles on the edge near the LOS. He is physical enough to handle the WR's at CB. But he is not a S unless he is backing up for injuries. He doesn't have the dog; he is physically and maybe mentally limited for that position.

Greg Sankey and the SEC refs be like:

Unfortunate, but very true. Whether it's Florida or us, neither stand a chance with the corrupt SEC refs officiating the game.

I don't understand why JJ and/or Byrd can't be used like Adoree Jackson next season, depending on the game...

If we have enough health at receiver, I'd be all for giving JJ a shot at safety cause he's a dog. But are we sure he'd be that good in coverage? Has he ever played safety? I'm almost certain they'll move Byrd to corner next year. I think with us still having Malone next year plus the additions of Callaway, Williams, Perry being back and others that the need at corner will be bigger than the need at receiver

Dalvin Cook vs our DL isn't a matchup I want to see

Eh, give him a month to prepare and I think Shoop could stitch something together. If nothing else, it would give our LBs and safeties practice at getting their run fits right. Our DTs are a weakness right now, but there's no reason that every run should be a threat to go for 40 - that's not entirely on the line. But I think this issue is mainly a function of inexperienced second-team guys who weren't ready to take a lot of snaps in a scheme they haven't absorbed yet. A month of practice as the first unit would do many guys a lot of good, I think.

Also, Barnett might murder Francois. That dude takes way too many hits as a QB. Fearlessness is all well and good, but he wouldn't be much use to his team if he's in the hospital getting his ass reattached.

Just some numbers for you stat lovers.

In the three games Hurd has not played, we have averaged 585 yards of total offense and averaged 278 yards rushing a game.

Wow.

As long as we still put him in for Hail Mary plays, I am happy :) Also, maybe on the first offensive play from scrimmage to send a message to the opposing team's CBs.

Wonder what our record looks like in 2015 if Kamara and Kelly had been the starters. Hurd had a very good season, of course, but those two are just magic when they're running together.

Is there any chance that Berry or others could be back for the bowl game? I never heard what his injury truly was. Very thankful to have Kamara and Sutton back. I wish Kongbo would learn the attitudes of these players instead of appearing so selfish. Coaches better not make the same mistake with him as they did with Hurd. If he doesn't want to be here, show him the damn door.

I just read an article stating Sumlin must beat LSU. I wonder if he would spend a rebound season in Knoxville with his buddy Butch? I don't think they would fire him this year, but it's interesting to think about. I, in no way, think this is plausible though. Just a pipe dream.
