Sometimes people just refuse to see the facts because they don't match their opinions.
I just read an article that said Tennessee was next to last in the SEC in TDs allowed, yards allowed, and 3 and outs forced to start games. Those are facts which match what I have seen saying.
My opinion is some of the reason for that is injuries, shoop's unfamiliarity with his roster, and poor game planning. All of it plays a role IMO but the facts are the defense is playing worse at the first of the game than any other part.
Not sure what the slow starts are about but hard to just pin that on defense as that is a team thing overall. My personal opinion could be wrong on our starts to games but at the start of this year what my eyes were seeing at beginning of games wasn't scheme but it was getting whipped physically. As games went we were the stronger team. Which takes me back to a decison I questioned from the start in firing Lawson before a huge year. Trying to change philosophy in weight room in such a huge year . We sacrificed alotnof strength training for endurance. Which I felt really hurt us early as we would get whipped at the line on both sides of the ball but then tables flipped come the 2nd quarter and on. I have seen some guys that know say Butch wanted to go smaller on some spots and Lawson did not.
