Since we're digressing from the college football forum... ;-)
I remember when I moved to Bosnia in 1998 and Croatia made it all the way to the World Cup semi-finals, where they lost to eventual champion France. Man, the whole city, country, region, etc. was going nuts! I became a big-time fan.
However, I have to say I lost interest after watching all of the "dives." Players regularly flop when anybody barely touches them in order to draw a foul - especially in the penalty box (and there's no instant replay).
Now I have to say that when we lived in the UK, the English had a great Rugby team and that's a sport that I could really get into. You have big guys who never take a break so they're all in shape. Watch the Aussies and the New Zealand Kiwis if you want to see some great sporting events.
College football -esp. UT of course - remains my favorite sport to watch but getting a little exposure to other international sports is not a bad thing (unless of course you are tortured by being made to watch cricket, curling, etc.). Oh, and one more thing (per my avi), nothing compares to watching Olympic wrestling!
