Is SG going to be back in June also or is his injury worse? Good grief.

I'm starting to wonder if Butch is turning up the intensity in spring camp to give any injuries time to heal, and then have a more scaled-back fall camp from a contact standpoint. Would help make the roster as healthy as possible heading into the season.

Seems like it would be more productive to just avoid the injuries in the first place. Hard to believe though, that he has started doing things differently than any of the other coaches in the country. It's just a string of bad luck. It's a rough game. People playing it get hurt sometimes.

Some impressive Shoop stats:

4th down stop percentage:
2011 - 20th
2012 - 9th
2013 - 96th
2014 - 6th
2015 - 1st

Vandy's defense took a step back in many categories in 2013-2014, so I think that year was a bit of an outlier.

Opponent yards per game:
2011 - 17th
2012 - 24th
2013 - 34th
2014 - 1st
2015 - 12th

Opponent yards per play:
2011 - 16th
2012 - 21st
2013 - 33rd
2014 - 3rd
2015 - 10th

Sacks per game from 2011-2014 was average, but exploded in 2015. Penn State was 1st nationally with 3.54 per game and a total of 46 sacks on the season through 13 games.

Shoop looks like the perfect hire to take this team to another level. His 3rd down defense is fairly average, with only great year (9th in 2014), but I will take a defense that gives up only 15 percent of 4th down conversions and breaks slightly more often on 3rd down than one that's great on 3rd down and absolutely helpless on 4th and short, medium, or long.

Pete Carroll said his success at every level is to conduct very physical practices. If you have depth it will build a champion.

The only time you dial back is when you have depleted bench. I agree with the theory that if a game was tomorrow, only a handful would be held out.

You can't avoid injuries altogether. I think Butch realizes that he can't afford to have his stars or even his depth sitting on sidelines in casts in September and October. But he also knows that full contact practices are invaluable in terms of building a physical team. And the Vols are definitely physical under Jones (a big reason why special teams are so effective).

So he's taking a calculated risk by moving more contact into the spring in the hopes that any injuries will be healed by August and he can minimize the number of injured players when the season kicks off.

😁😁😁😁

Championship or bust.....

Unfortunately for me the more I read about this team the more I expect at the minimum a trip to Atlanta, I'll b disappointed if they lose to fl again or don't make the sec championship game...

This is why they lowered the hammer:

According to the NCAA, Tyndall facilitated cash and prepaid credit card payments, fabricated a document to justify payments to student-athletes and took other actions to thwart the investigation.

If he did all of that, then significant punishment is warranted. A 10 year show cause is still way excessive, in my opinion, even if they have proof that he did all of those things. Tyndall is contesting that they have proof and claims that the NCAA is basing its conclusion primarily upon one witness to whom they granted immunity.

I think he's contesting because of selective enforcement and over the top penalties for non-blue blood program coaches. Same thing with pearl. NCAA is organized crime IMO and can't wait till they're relegated to DIV III enforcement.

I had this exact same thought yesterday.

Butch should be ran out of town if he doesn't play for at the least the SEC Championship.

Make or break. If we have another below expectations year, recruiting will take a hit and we will have a hard time rising above mid-SEC. If we win the east convincingly, this class will take care of itself and the future with it.

If for some reason we end up with 2015 part II, Butch will need to make some aggressive staff changes to reestablish momentum. I can think of two I would start with.

That said, Shoop's defense is gonna keep us in some games that Jancek would lose, and the offense is going to be stout. If Butch can't win with that team and staff, well, he can't win. But seriously, we'll win, and we'll win big.

Keep us in games? What defense on our schedule can stop us? I plan on playing from ahead all year. 😁

And FTR, this team is loaded and needs to take the next step. If not Butch is Ron Zook level. But I plan on us winning big this year. Shoop will win a lot of games by himself. And with how we run the ball it won't be pretty for opposing teams to play from behind.

Key injuries will slow us. Hope it doesn't happen, but it does to us every stinkin year. We are talented enough to absorb a few, but not the number we have been having.

Majority of injuries are pre cautionary. Nothing even close to season ending.

Worst injury right now is shy and he's still likely to be a factor this fall

Staff knows what they are doing, the people whining about these injuries are your usual host of whiners...
