Butch said he has aged 15 years in the past 3. I don't see him going to Auburn to rebuild another fallen power in the SEC. He seems committed to finishing what he started at UT, and so much of the heavy lifting is done.

If he leaves UT down the road, it seems more likely that he'll leave the SEC and head somewhere like Michigan State. The SEC is murderers row week after week after week. Even Butch's least-talented UT teams whooped Big Ten teams.

I agree. I don't think he'll go anywhere else in the SEC. Doesn't mean other teams won't try to lure him away, though. If he has a huge season in 2016, Hart will have to make him the 2nd highest-paid coach in the SEC, IMO. $5.5 million/year or something like that.

2016 is supposed to be our year according to most experts. Most fans are predicting 10+ wins and to win the East, including myself. Let's say Butch does meet those expectations and starts getting looks at other programs. How much would it affect our instate recruiting on highly touted guys like Trey Smith, JaCoby Stevens, Tee Higgins, or DeAngelo Gibbs? Cause most schools would use that against us if Butch decided to look at other schools. I'm not saying Butch would leave Tennessee cause he considers it his "Dream Job" but there's always that possibility. What would we expect if we was put in that situation?

If Butch has growing success - he isn't going anywhere. He will have a 12-15 year run making top dollar at a Top Ten program. No state income taxes, great place for raising families, and being loved by a huge loyal fan base nationwide.

For aurgument sake, if he left it would be for the NFL due to the grind of recruiting getting to him. He's a big system guy with a huge network of coaching contacts as well as with NFL players.

Agreed

SMH at the thought of Butch Jones going to the NFL or to Auburn.

Let's pump the brakes guys.

Didn't say he was. He will get offers though.

I believe him when he says other programs want to know how he turned around Tennessee. Place was toxic when he arrived.

How many programs would be a "Step Up" from Tennessee?

Possible list:
Texas
The OSU
Florida
Alabama
Michigan
USC (Trojans not the Gamecocks)

others?

Did not mean to hijack the thread, just thinking out loud how short the list of "better" jobs might be.

There's no way of knowing how a coach leaving would affect recruiting (or anything else) without knowing who the replacement is.

I don't think he will get NFL offers. He would have to be massively successful for that to happen. Right now he has a LONG way to go to get offers from any NFL teams.

LSU and UGA are maybe on that list because of instate talent base. FSU perhaps. Some nationally might say Texas A&M now that it is an SEC school.

If the Vols win the SEC, Butch will likely get offers. He's well-compensated, though, so a lot of schools can't afford him. I'm sure UT will bump him, but Hart tends to be cheap. Even so, $5M is very doable for UT.

I really don't think money will be the deciding factor, though. Winning is never easy in the SEC... but I think Butch wants to win a championship at UT before he seriously considers moving on.

If Butch gets this thing rolling like I hope that he can, there isn't a school in the country that will be able to pry him away.

UT fans have battered wife syndrome. It is understandable. We have been down so long that we have trouble believing we deserve better.

Butch being the hottest name in coaching next offseason with offers from every major college and NFL program is a problem I'd love to have.

It would mean we met our highest expectations for this year... that wouldn't worry me one bit.

I imagine he will get a significant raise after winning the SEC championship and being a part of the college football playoffs.

Why would he ever want to leave?

Money. Auburn pays more watch out. This AD is cheap, so it would not surprise me. I don't think he is going anywhere yet though. Besides, Butch still has to prove he can pull all this talent together and live up to the hype this year first anyway.
