Hmmm...
I used to think the griping and despair around here was because of the Dooley years. Finally, we are a top 10 team, with nothing but potential to rise, and it's still going on.
Come to find out, that's just the way VN is :hi:
I just met coach Gilliespie as Tampa international airport. I manage the Tesla motors in Atlanta,Ga. I am in Tampa for SM continued training, And he said he was also taking a flight to Atlanta. I asked if he was here recruiting and he said yes but did not say who and he said he was going to touch base with some kids in Atlanta. I kind of dorked out and said "man you are really making a name for yourself in the coaching ranks" he said it's easy when you sell such a great product. (looking back that sounded kind of rude of me cause he has been well known before us) but either way he was super nice and had a smile on his face the whole time. He thought it was cool my last name was Saturday and said well if I ever run into you again it will be hard to forget that name. Cool story bro moment for sure.

No s**t, everyone seems to be whining. WTF did they put in yalls water up there?
I've decided certain fans grew up watchingVols football with their daddies, and saw how their daddies complained through out ball games and thundered with righteous indignation about how so and so made dumb mistakes and should be fired, benched, etc. every week. And from that they learned that if you aren't calling for someone's head, you don't care enough. And that's the only way they know how to "enjoy" the game. They have no capacity to think objectively, discern progress over time or accept that sometimes you just lose ball games when you are facing an evenly matched opponent. they will never be happy with anything less than a national title, and for some of them even that won't make them happy (I have a few family members who hated Fulmer so much for what he did to Majora they still don't accept the '98 title). In short, out of the 120 years of Vols football, they only have the possibility of enjoying two of those years (and maybe only one - 1951).
This move is strictly about $$$$$$$$$$ guys. Exposure may have played into it some but I believe it's all about TV dollars for the conference and UT. Money talks.

Fortenberry had a very interesting take on instate recruiting in yesterday's VQ podcast. Most of it has been said before but he said he's been talking to a lot of people in the recruiting community that say Nashville today is what Gwinnett county in Atlanta was 20 years ago: a recruiting hotbed that is rapidly on the rise and will only get better with time due to growth. He said our "struggles" in state are because of the intense competition we now face for talent. Whereas 5-6 years ago Tennessee was doing well to have a handful of nationally sought-after recruits, there a bunch now and every school in the country is sending reps to local high schools. He said the diversity of colleges he sees at Nashville events is starting to rival Atlanta (not on same scale yet of course). He said the trouble for Tennessee is that most of these high rated recruits weren't born in Tennessee and since they've lived here, Tennessee has been terrible - on level with Kentucky (my interpretation of his words, not his exactly). So, instate kids need to overcome the perception that if they go to Tennessee they are settling for something less than the best.
Bottom line: to confirm what has already been said, we need a breakout season this fall that leaves no doubt anywhere in the country that the Vols are back.
If that happens, the floodgates are going to open.
If that's the case, the best thing we can hope to happen would be for all these big time in-state guys and others like Lawerence to hold off on their commitments until they can see what this team can do. Early commitments by Higgins, Lawrence, and Stevens would not bode well for us on many levels IMO.
Stevens will commit somewhere this summer. Bonds has told many that he will commit before his season begins and shut it down.
They are 17. Even if they do, they can and probably will change their minds (about 20 times) before February
Volatil, do you believe Bonds is going to UNC? If so, do you believe that means that he doesn't want to be at UT or that the coaches wouldn't accept his commitment at this time?
