In other UT athletics news, Dave Serrano is being brought back for next year.

Vols decide Dave Serrano's future

Wow, I don't follow baseball but I pulled the stats out of curiosity because it seems like they've been bad every year. He's been at UT 5 years and hasn't finished higher than 5th in the East yet. He has a losing overall record and has won less than 1/3 of his conference games.

Can you imagine what the fans would do if a coach had that kind of track record in football or basketball? I know SEC baseball is tough but still.

Tuttle is not even close to being back and is not as good as Barnett.

KMac is good but will still just be a sophomore. He is what he is until it shows up on the field. He was a guy who needed to spot play last year.

O'Brien got himself suspended last year and it wouldn't surprise me if it happened again.

We added what we hope is an impact player in Juco Alexis Johnson who is already suspended.

Lots to be concerned about at DT. People can keep drinking the koolaid but DT is not SEC elite level yet. That's the truth.

Tuttle was getting the most push out of any lineman when he was in early in the year. Was starting to dominate inside the more time he got. Remember why the lineman cut him? Couldn't block him straight up so he dirty cut him from the back. Also can make tackles down the line as a DT. If you think our DTs are bad you may want to look around the SEC and tell me who has better players there.

Brought in players kicked out of other programs for sexual assault who then committed same offense at Baylor. One guy is now in prison with upwards of six possible victims. Multiple instances of accusations and no suspensions whatsoever.

And we have a "rape culture"

Bet Baylor's glad they don't have a hackrag like The Tennessean to dig up the dirt-- or make it up, since that requires less journalistic pretense. Anita Whatawhiner is probably burning up the keyboard, making the story about UT.

Texas and Tennessee both begin with a T.......I'm sure there's a connection she can use.

Baylor added to the Title IX Lawsuit........."if those Volunteers from Tennessee hadn't gone to the Alamo, this wouldn't have happened".

The Briles firing has rival SEC fanbases in a frenzy. They're all predicting doom for Butch Jones.

One Gator fan on the Rant even says that what Butch did is worse than what Briles did.

Morons. Morons everywhere.

This is Dave Hart saying I've got a lot on my plate and don't want to be distracted this summer with a baseball coaching search - I'll defer that to next year.

A one year extension will kill Serrano on the recruiting trail. No change he's here next summer.

I wish we would invest more in baseball. If our team ever made a serious run in the college world series, we'd have UT baseball fans coming out of the wood works. That's a fun tournament that gets way too overshadowed.

Lol, nothing is going to happen to Butch Jones. That's their fear talking.

Going through those conversations with my Bama buddy idiots right now. Told them I'd give $100 to first person who could name player Butch didn't immediately suspend. Crickets.

Going to ask them if Saban supports drug dealers and gun runners after Cam Robinson incident.

FWIW - DP12 posted that CDS was promised numerous upgrades to facilities, etc. when hired as well as after his second season when he declined a serious offer from another program. To this point none of the promised major improvements have occurred except for practice facilities.

FWIW II - LNS is a bottom tier SEC facility. There are only 3 as bad or worse - Mizzou, Kentucky and Auburn.

The improvements were important to build recruiting momentum since UT is not a destination, tradition rich baseball school. Better facilities and better parking would help drive a better fan experience. Imagine Butch Jones selling UT football to recruits if facilities and tradition were more like USCe or Mizzou.

CDS messed up with the small ball stuff and it may be too late to pull it out now. Or Hart may be leaving in a year and it will give the next AD the opportunity.

Not surprised - but honestly this was my first thought when I heard this news and why I posted that earlier. Rival fans aren't the only ones thinking this - I'm sure rival coaches are.

I think this will affect recruiting - at least for a period of time.

There's your problem right there...

Dismiss players the day they became involved in a criminal investigation and not even consider letting them return to the team until the investigation closed with no charges filed? Saban would have docked them a cookie at dinner and stomped out of the room if anybody dared question it.

Jones does more than that. He dismissed Paulk when there was evidence of wrongdoing, even though no charges were ever brought. He doesn't look the other way when incidents happen or when there are accusations.

There's evidence that Urban did nothing to Hernandez at Florida after several brushes with the law. He killed people

If Briles lost his job, Urban should go to jail.

Someone should remind those absent minded gators.

Easy there on the cookies now even that punishment may go too far

Baylor is doing a full spring cleaning. Geez, there must be some really horrible stuff they figured out and we don't know yet. Or we do....I haven't followed closely whathas been happening there. Anybody wanna give me some good pointers on the Baylor problems?

Multiple reports of sexual assault were not reported to the proper authorities, and "football coaches or staff met directly with a complainant and/or a parent of a complainant and did not report the misconduct."

Have a look at the finding of facts PDF here: http://www.baylor.edu/rtsv/doc.php/266596.pdf if you want. Or, check out this this reddit thread to see what other people are saying about it. https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/4l5zdr/baylor_thread_art_briles_status_et_al/
