We all make fun of Vern and his mistakes and say retirement is way past due

Damn I wish John ward hadn't heard those same criticisms

If he did, he knew it was the budding Bruins of the world...making up crap. Ward was sharp to the end...not an opinion.

This. Verne detracts from the experience by saying incorrect things over and over or not giving any information that the viewer can't already see. He doesn't add any value at all. At the very least a play by play guy should be telling you basics like who caught the ball or who got the hand off or who made the tackle, and he's awful at that. His overall contribution is neutral at best and negative at worst.

Ward enhanced the game experience right up to his last day, despite occasionally tripping over words.

Can't help but think drunk uncle Verne will take his farewell season to mention Tebow even moreso than he does now. In fact by years end he'll probably mention his name every play regardless of the teams actually playing. He'll probably just say his name over and over like he has turrets."QB drops back to pass...Tebow!...surveys the field...Tebow!"

Over under Tebow mentions at 1000 for the season?

And per your op many people feel the same about Vern

Because if you've ever watched one of his games? It's obvious. Not true about Ward...simple stuff that you shouldn't be struggling with so much.

Not as many times as he'll say the opposite of what actually happened.

I guess I didn't hear many criticisms about JW. I thought he had some years left.

It's been 18 years since he's called a game for the Vols and I've yet to hear anyone over that time, or before, complain about Jon Ward.

People don't make it a habit of muting the TV and turning up the radio for play callers if they're not any good.

First I've ever read or heard anyone claim Ward had detractors but that's not unusual, considering the source.

Always muted the volume during games Verne called. He irritated me too much with his stupid banter and incompetency in calling a game. CBS irritated me worse by continually bringing him back.

I mute more games across the board than I listen to the commentators. There are so few that add anything that I cannot see with my own eyes and understanding. Even with injuries etc one can see quicker updates via Twitter than waiting on them to handoff to the sideline reporter etc.

Muting the commentary is a better means to be productive.
