I'm exceedingly glad I'm not a coach. I would hate to have you know-it-all's questioning my every decision. Could you imagine if someone watched you work for 15 minutes out of a 40 hour work week with no knowledge of how your job is done, and they critiqued every detail? Hmm, as a matter of fact, how many of you are supervisors?

Do you realize that you're on a message board? VN exists for the purpose of giving fans a place to discuss football, including the personnel decisions of the coaches.

Some of us just don't think Butch is infallible.

Hence the first phrase in my quoted post. I'm just saying the whole defense has had some sloppy tackling. Needs to be cleared up fast.

The Florida game is worth so much to this fan base. It's worth so much more than 1 game. If he wins that one I don't see any way this season ends up being a bust. On the other hand, I fear that if we lose that one the fanbase will be spewing venom like never before and he never recovers.

I definitely think the Florida game is a crossroad for Butch's career. Lose that game and it may spell doom for him, long term. Win that game and it may catapult him to great heights.

Okay but when do we stop comparing him to Dooley? Anyone with a pulse could of beaten 8 of the 9 teams we beat last year. We need to compare him to Fulmer, and he can't touch him.

10 teams with "pulses" didn't beat Georgia or Northwestern last year (including Stanford). 5 win Vandy beat 5 win Tennessee in our disastrous (but preseason hyped) 2005 season...under Fulmer. HEAVILY hyped team. Five draft picks...beginning of the bleeding, staved off for two years by the return of Cut.

Who compared him to Dooley? There is no comparison. Dooley would have probably lost half of those games that you refer to. Not even going to argue this with you. If you can't give respect to Butch for the job he has done in turning this program around, then I don't know what to say.

Butch inherited a very bad team with little talent. Phil inherited a loaded team with a Heisman finalist at QB (Shuler). Not to mention all those RBs and defense.

Why does Butch not get any credit for completely overhauling this roster with actual SEC players?

The roster is loaded now. Let's allow the season to play out for comparison purposes.

I was a supervisor, & then manager, for a large company and that is exactly what happens. It's OK, goes with the territory.

You can disagree as much as you want, but good God try to make it more entertaining.
I gave wally a like for the "we get it" part.
Like or dislike a coach/player freely but please stop saying the exact same 4 or 5 things about Jumper. I come to the RF for some enlightened discussion of football. My neighbor's 1 yr old can repeat several sentences, just set the bar higher please.

This might be one of the stupidest posts that I have ever read, and, that's saying something on this board. It is insulting to the other 100 or so players on the team. I get that we are all frustrated, but there has to be a reason he is out there over more athletic players. Maybe the coaches are wrong. Swain has said that the players support and respect Jumper. In my UNINFORMED opinion, I think that we should try something else, but, in the end, I trust our coaches and players. To say we need a miracle because of one player is just plain dumb.

Where are the posts that state that CBJ is infallible? I haven't seen any.

There is a wide chasm between the excited fans who have been waiting for a decade for the Vols to be good again and the legion of the miserable who revel in any possible negative aspect of the football team.

It is a message board. Opinions are just that.
I read VN for enjoyment of the only football team that matters to me.

All the pessimistic perseveration and mental masturbation over one player or one position group is so over the top except to the obsessive negaVols; it borders on ridiculous.

Hope for a great season bands many of us together. Hope seems to truly upset many of the legion. They have been in ecstasy of a bad decade. I think many are so enamored with the negative that the positive offends them.
