Put it this way, do you want the other team to break a long run for a touchdown, because we weren't line up right and in the wrong defensive set?

Or would you rather be in position, take your chances in coverage with Jumper covering, and with another safety helping. Also, in obvious passing downs, we won't see Jumper there unless it's for a QB spy.

I'd rather play a competent linebacker and take my chances with the defense not being lined up correctly.

I've already seen enough instances of the opposing team getting long plays because Jumper can't shed blocks, tackle, or cover anybody.

Man I am really rooting for him.

The Florida game is worth so much to this fan base. It's worth so much more than 1 game. If he wins that one I don't see any way this season ends up being a bust. On the other hand, I fear that if we lose that one the fanbase will be spewing venom like never before and he never recovers.

I agree. I also think if we can finally beat Florida, you might see Butch relax a little and open up some on the offensive side of the ball. IMO, I think it will be the make or break game for his tenure at TN. Win, and I will be very interested just how far he can take us, but he will get ample time to do it. Lose, and he's not the answer, and may not make it past next season...it will depend on how the players respond. At some point, you have to worry they will stop listening to his message if he can't get them to the next level of winning big games.

The coaches like that jumper can get the right play called for the other 10 guys.

They value that more than the athletic ability of another.

I hope Jumper comes out and plays like an All-American to shut all of you up. Y'all act like the coaches aren't doing what they think is the best to win a game. Jumper played bad last year, yes. He got beat on one play against Va Tech and that could have happened to anyone. Give the guy a chance against Ohio.

I hope he comes out and plays like an All-American as well. Pardon me if I don't hold my breath, though.

Because we have actually played sports before and have experience with such an injury.

High ankle sprains might not be common in football but happen all the time in basketball. I've seen DK's injury on the basketball court a millon times. Typically it happens when you're jumping and you come down on someone else's leg.

I got a high ankle sprain playing basketball a few years ago. It happens when I came down on someone's leg. When the twist happened, I thought I broke my leg. I couldn't walk for a week. My ankle swelled to twice it's original size plus all around the ankle there was bruising. Two weeks after the injury the swelling subsided as my ankle returned to it's original size and the bruising went down to the point that I could walk again. Three weeks later you could barely see any of the bruising around my ankle anymore and I was close to 100%. Four weeks later I was back playing basketball like nothing ever happened.

It's possible to be back in a 3-4 weeks as Chris Lowe reported. I recovered in that timespan without the help of state of the art sports medicine.

Nobody wants to hear about your miraculous recovery from a slightly twisted ankle in the 7th grade.

It's completely different from coming back from a high ankle sprain and playing D1 football.

The negativity in here is on par with FF. Damn guys lay off the nega-aide.

The only difference between here and the FF is in the FF you get 20 different threads saying the same tired old shizz and in here you get every other post saying the same tired old shizz..

If that's true... How bad are our coaches that Jumper and dk are the only 2 capable of getting plays in?

We all hope that.

Some people forget where we use to be. We use to complain we didn't win. Now we complain we didn't win by enough. Fans have short memories these days.....

I agree. I made a promise on this board somewhere in the late Dooley era / early Butch Jones era not to complain anymore once we got back to being a regular top 25 team with a legitimate shot at a division title (or sometimes more). I intend to stick by that promise.

I really do believe if you can't enjoy your favorite team winning 8 games in row for the first time in about 20 years, then you need a new hobby.

I'd rather the coaches develop a contingency after seeing how poor Jumper was last year. It's year 4. We shouldn't be in a situation like this.

However, in your scenario I'll take talent every time. I've watched the defense with him in there. He's not getting anyone lined up. He twirls around waving his arms, the ball is snapped, they attack him, and we give up chunks.

Yep. The Vols do not suck anymore. Hell, the Vols are GOOD. Are they great? I don't know. That remains to be seen. But Tennessee was the laughing stock of CFB for years and can now spot a team like VT 14 points (or ranked UGA 21 points) while getting absolutely worked in the trenches and then flat out take over the game and go on a 45-3 run to win in blowout fashion.

I think most of us would have killed to see that just a few years ago. During the Dooley era, a 7-point deficit felt like game over. Even a TIED game felt like game over.

Exactly.

How do we have only one linebacker on the entire team who is both sufficiently athletic and capable of getting the defense lined up correctly?

Did Bynum just forget how to play MLB since the Gator Bowl? He handled it pretty good at that time. He isn't even mentioned now in this position.

Very ironic. I literally just got a text from a friend. We have not discussed this issue at all. He watched the App State game again and said that Bynum was bad.

Let's keep it real. Butch has things he is not the best at but I think he is a great fit for UT and meets the criteria of what it takes to win big at this program. He has brought this program from the ashes to top 15 and rising.

Sure he makes mistakes but I'm glad he was hired cause he has done a great job rebuilding this thing which is what we had to have when he was hired.

If we win anything this year it'll be in spite of him not because of him.

Butch Jones is a terrible in-game coach.

How about they prepare someone the last 9 months that could also line the defense up pre-snap but also have the athletic ability to be competent once the ball is snapped?

They had 9 freakin months to prepare for this scenario and if Jumper is still the only choice, thats on them.

If we lose to Florida and Jumper is the reason, Butch Jones must be fired on the spot.

Jumper is not good. He can't play. Will lose games. Blows coverages. Misses tackles. "We've seen this movie before...". Coaching failure. Recruiting failure. Evaluation failure. Development failure. Too damn stubborn. OklahomaOklahomaOklahoma. All powerful offensive mastermind Jim Mclewain already has 97 plays drawn up to abuse Jumper. Absolute incompetence.

WE GET IT, SWEET MERCIFUL SH!T, WE GET IT!

Forget a Jumper thread, he needs his own damn forum.

Amazing how Doering makes all sorts of excuses for floridas play against UMASS (spurrier, rain, first game excitement) but was quick to talk about how poorly we played against App State. That guy is such a homer. Another reason why I hope we not only beat them but destroy them
