So we can't run block on first down so let's keep doing it?

So we can't block for a normal pocket so let's not roll Dobbs out to give him a run pass option to make the defense half to decide what they're going to cover?

So let's not try the quick passing game going to quick slants? (They were there).

So since putting Hurd and Kamara in at the same time and let Hurd lead block for him worked, let's never go back to it?

It was an abomination of a game plan that they never deviated from.

Not going to disagree totally, but the thing you fail to state is that there were calls made that Dobbs did not make the right read. That's not the fault of the play caller. Missed on the read option and missed several reads on passes. It makes you look bad when your senior QB can't make those plays. Of course, it helps as well when Dobbs can scramble too when a play breaks down. But it all goes hand and hand.

.

The running game was working better on first down better than the passing game. That was clear

The quick slants produced a 6yd and 4yd gain with 2 incomplete passes.

The first Down runs gave us our best plays of the game. 12, 8, 7 yard runs but the negative plays hurt the averaged

Houston with the lucky finish.

Kind of funny that Herman has been hailed as the next best thing. He is a great coach but lost to Navy and could have easily lost tonight. I haven't watched a whole game but from what I have seen, his offense doesn't seem that much more creative than others. Greg Ward really helps.

No it wasn't if you consider passes within three yards of the los passes, I don't. They're extended handoffs. The negative plays to the flat hurt the passing average as well. DeBord is going to end up costing Butch his job if he's not careful. If DeBord is truly Butch's puppet he better get over himself and hire someone and let the guy do his thing.

That throw to Hurd in the flat wasn't on 1st down unless I misread the box

Edit: it was on first down

If your senior qb is making those mistakes is that not an indictment on the coaches? Is that because we really don't have a qb coach?

Gary Danielson "Jennings is the toughest athlete in the league and the best receiver for 50/50 balls"

With that being said

I misread the box

We passed 5 times on first down for 6 total yards

We ran 16 times for 63 total yards. Not bad at all with right at 4 yards per play.

It wasn't but it was indicative of the whole passing attack. We didn't throw on first down until the third quarter if I'm not mistaken. It was too late at that point to do anything. It was a worthless game plan that was unfair to the players.

I have no idea. This is not the first time though that Dobbs has done it. Really smart but gets scared when he feels pressure and doesn't let his instincts kick in. Sometimes, he doesn't scramble when he should. Ali am saying that it all goes together. Great execution makes a play call look like a genius call; terrible execution makes it look bad. The Hurd catch in the flat was just not the right read. Middle was wide, wide open, and Dobbs never gave it a chance.
