I hate losing to Vandy and understand how many things went wrong to get us there. However, if at the beginning of the year, if you had to choose beating Florida and losing somehow to Vandy or vice versa, which would you have chosen? I wanted to beat Florida so bad and glad it finally happened. Very disappointed in the season but still smile at the memory of being in Neyland as the final seconds ticked off the clock.

None. I hope I'm wrong. But again, as it's a message board about UT football, I don't feel any sort of guilt in having a rational, civil discussion about UT football.

You shouldn't if that's what you're doing. I don't see it, but I could be wrong.

Edit: I am going to do us both a favor and put you on time out for awhile. Bye for now.

Am I the only one who looks at that and cringes a tiny bit?

DT depth stinks worse than this year.
Those CBs as our starters, yikes. Need Byrd moved asap.
Jumper still there, should be Berry. Lack of good depth at LB still. Where the hell is Austin Smith? Oh at DE smh
DE will take a step back.
OL will finally be stacked, I see Tatum knocking Hall out of that starting spot if he can put on weight. He looked much better there, more mobile.
WR need Malone to stay to allow Byrd to move.

How can the DT depth be any worse? The only person we lost was O'Brien, who was a senior anyway. We add Alexis Johnson and most likely several freshmen.

and we didn't have him or any other DT outside of vickers there for the whole year

Silly argument

I'm not saying we're ready to compete w bama. But it's not crazy to think with some health and everyone returning we couldn't be a legitimate team. Especially if JG is a player

Sutton, JRM, DOB, Hurd, etc should have been big losses but we really didn't play w them anyway

Kamara is the loss. If JG isn't legit then Dobbs will be felt. Other than that, too injured to be missed

On the D line.... everyone is a year older. We lose Barnett. We have some real talent at the DE position so I'm not worried about replacing CV. Shy and Khalil are a great combo but DT's showout later in their careers. That's a position where strength and conditioning matters more so than others. When DT is better then everything looks better on defense.

On the O line. Again, we lose one player. This is a developmental position as well and one that Dooley really left us depleted after the 2013 seniors and Tiny left. It takes time to fix that position when it's in that kind of mess. (I'm ready to see a coaching change here)

Wait and see. We will be better at both lines overall next year.

If you didn't count Shy when you were critiquing our DT depth going into this season (which you didn't) you can't count him for next season. He's played a total of maybe one season, has had two significant leg injuries, and hasn't had a full offseason of strength training since he was an incoming freshman.

Is it May and he's still in a boot?

No, but it's a significant injury, it's completely unknown when he'll be back, and he wasn't even back to his freshman year form when he got injured again. Hard for me to definitely count him as a highly productive starter right now.

If you could pick 1 thing that served as the lynch pin for this train wreck of a season, what would it be?

I've seen mentions of potentially replacing Martinez, Mahoney, Stripling and Azzani on the coaching staff. Just curious, any word on Thigpen?

The drama with Hurd. Seems like it started last year and continued into this season. In a team environment, one person can really screw up the mood. His performance on the SC game likely contributed to that loss, which seemed to me to really change the perception of our season.

Lack of player development on the defense. Not sure if it's misunderstanding of the scheme or what. Fundamentals seemed better in 2015. Maybe the players had to think too much this year instead of playing?

Everyone I talk to has chalked up the disappointing season to injuries and certainly we were one of the most injured team in college, especially on defense. BUT, we were 100 percent on September 1st and looked horrible, unprepared, unfocused, sloppy, right out of the gate. Appalachian State dominated us from the first snap and we were very fortunate to have won in OT. Injuries were not the issue then and now we know that game was not a fluke, unfortunately. I don't know know what the hell Butch let the players do all summer, but his decisions from S&C to camp, to personnel, etc had devastating consequences on this season from game one when injuries were not a factor. Butch should have to answer for those decisions
and tell us it will be corrected. I would respect him so much more if he would just talk like a normal person and show some emotion. Tell us that he hurts along with the team and fans and he's going to work to fix it.

Been sitting here trying to think of an answer but there's so many things I just can't do it. Fortunately the good stuff was able to come together for short spurts like the second half against Florida, the second quarter at BoB, the last couple of minutes at UGA and TAMU (I know it was a loss but still fun), or else it could have been much worse.

And this. Can't believe I left out the main excuse.

Florida was decimated with injuries as well. Somehow turned it into an East championship though.

We were without our best CB, top 2 LBs, and 3 of our top 4 DTs for basically the entire season. Florida on the other hand lost just their top 2 LBs and top safety in just the 0set few weeks. Yes they've been without Del Rio but the guy is overrated and Appleby is actually the better player. Florida played better against Tennessee and LSU with Appleby than they did with against Arkansas with Del Rio.

Florida's injury situation was bad but not really close to ours. Florida was hurt by injuries. We were decimated.

A fun analysis... Remove our missing starters position from our opponents and then tell me their W/L. Guarantee everyone drops multiple additional Games, except Bama.

Flip it, and take any SEC teams injuries. Give them to TN. With the exception of a Dobbs injury, we improve around the board
