Sumlin wasn't 6-0 vs AP top 25 teams
Just like harbaugh would never go to Michigan, the Celtics never hiring Brad Stevens, etc. He's been under saban and has prob learned something. If he becomes a head coach and wins, he will be a hot commodity. Why the hell would Dabo leave a job where he has complete backing, pretty much 100% job security and an easy route to the playoffs to go follow one of if not the best college coach ever? You need a grip on reality, that's career suicide if he doesn't win the NC immediately
Do you think he was bad at reading it or he just didn't want to run sometimes?
No doubt sumlin is a good coach but I think Herman is going to be special at TexasTrue. But he's 44-20 with a 21-19 SEC record in five seasons in the WEST division and beat Bama twice, once on the road and once when they were the #1 team. He beats the better teams in the west frequently. Move that to the east and watch what happens with a better DC.
That all makes perfect sense and also speaks to his tendency to check down when we needed plays down the field, such as the end of the vandy game. Defaulted to the safe play, either because of being coached that way or his own personality. Both actually. Just was never sure of himself. He would read it wrong once or twice and then freeze up about it and make the safe handoff regardless of the right read. That's the way it sounded from Kerby and appeared to me. A lot of it Butch covered up by saying it was gap scheme run plays when they really were not. Butch's stock run play and the read option have similar formations, blocking and QB/RB actions initially. A lot of times posters on here were mad at the O-line or for Hurd going two yards and falling down when it was Dobbs not making the right read and carrying out the play. Who knows, they may have coached him to err on the side of caution and hand off if he had any doubts.
If you notice Dobbs running style is straight up and down, very little body lean. That's not a real DT. He took some monster hits as a result. The staff had to see the same thing and wanted to limit it for potential injury purposes.
All of that is lack of development, which may be the player's fault, the coaches' fault, or both.
