Tell me, do you recall him hitting a hot read on a corner or safety blitz? Do you honestly think the coaches gave him the green light to pull the ball and run on the read option in every game? Because if they did he wasn't very good at it in those games.

I'm not knocking Dobbs, he is one of my favorite all time VOLS., I just think he could halve been better in certain games and I blame it on coaching.

I mentioned during the season that Kerby said as much on a Pennington's Sports Source telecast. Per him, Dobbs had authority much of the time. He just didn't read them right according to a good former O-lineman that blocked for him for several years. I take Kerby at his word because it matches what I saw. Quite honestly, people have Dobbs all wrong as being a DT. He is a Tee Martin, a mobile pro style. He does his best work running the ball when he is improvising. But he is a much better pocket passer when he has time to set his feet and be in rhythm. He just never learned to step up into the pocket very well and is not great at reading coverages.

This offense will work better with a true DT despite what Butch said when he arrived. JG is that type of guy. QD is not. If Butch continues to refuse to modify the scheme, the only way they are going to win at a higher level is to start JG day one in 2017 and suffer through the learning curve. So if that is how it is going forward they need an OC that is also a DT QB coach, or, they are forced to hire a QB coach with an OC that coaches another position. The most important position on the field deserves as much. Sorry, Butch.

Just like harbaugh would never go to Michigan, the Celtics never hiring Brad Stevens, etc. He's been under saban and has prob learned something. If he becomes a head coach and wins, he will be a hot commodity. Why the hell would Dabo leave a job where he has complete backing, pretty much 100% job security and an easy route to the playoffs to go follow one of if not the best college coach ever? You need a grip on reality, that's career suicide if he doesn't win the NC immediately

Dobbs' development was definitely stunted here. There's no reason for a kid as smart as he is to be making the dumb decisions he did four years in. IMO a QB coach would have helped him greatly.

Exactly. Just find the right DC/staff to match up with the offensive style. IMO the uptempo has been too much for Chief to handle well at this point.

I honestly believe that if he played for Bama or Oh state he'd be holding that heisman trophy this year

Yep, defense had been a big problem for Sumlin, and he had every reason to think chief was a solid hire.

Which it also was in the Wisconsin/OSU game earlier in the season, except it was the officials not calling obnoxious holding on many plays the entire game against OSU.

Do you think he was bad at reading it or he just didn't want to run sometimes?
