Here's what I think about 9-4 seasons.
Our all-time record is 819-364-53, which is a .679 winning percentage. If we go 9-4 our winning percentage for the season is .692.
Seems 9-4 seasons should be our baseline expectation, all things considered. Do better than that and it's a good season. Do worse and it's bad. Go 9-4 and it's pretty much average.

How much did Dooley jack up our average I wonder? Too much effort to do the math, lol.
Snooping around I ended up on PFF page to see where DB projects.
For a good laugh scroll down to Tabor, the only one with any kind of "highlight".

was osu playing clemson when woody hit that kid?
So if a team starts the year unranked and only loses one game early, the team that beat them doesn't get credit for beating a ranked team because preseason polls didn't realize how good that team was?
It just seems that outside of DK and JRM, nobody at that position is very good. Sapp went down and we didn't get to see much, but that position groups needs massive improvement

If that's the case, then Butch had a top 4 win with a far inferior roster. USC ended up #4 that year and just like Pitt with PSU, we took away a chance at a possible national championship.
The way I understand it your statement is correct. It is not where the team finishes but where they are ranked at the time you actually play them. The way stats are these days and with all the computers being used to track everything, the other way makes as much since, and somebody somewhere probably has that data.
2 LBs that quite frankly are just naturals at the position. Didn't see any improvement year to year. All I watched were good football players making plays.
