Barnes is a good coach if people would give him a chance
Only thing that worries me is the lack of a consistent low-post scorer. There's always those games where outside shots don't seem to fall and if that happens Hubbs is the only player we have that can get his own shot and get us going offensively. And I think that'll lead to a team that ends the season with enough good wins to make the tournament but too many bad losesConcur. I'm not a basketball expert, but we seem to have a discernible flow and purpose on both offense and defense. I liked Cuonzo better than most, but I never thought it looked like we knew what we were doing on offense. Tyndall wasn't here long enough, but his teams appeared like they were just playing backyard basketball.
This team looks competent and well-coached. Good spacing on the court. They play hard. I think this could be a team that gets better and better as the year goes on. Don't want to get too far ahead of myself, but we might have a darkhorse NCAA tournament team.
Updated national recruiting rankings for UT after getting Trey Smith:
Rivals: 6
247Sports: 10
Scout: 7
ESPN still not updated I don't think. Sitting at 14.
I've been vocal about Jones after Vandy. I think Jones needs to go hands off and be a CEO with great OC and DC if he wants to be here past 2017. That being said.....
I really think that ESPN ranking is important. People have gotten used to rivals but rivals doesn't have a 24/7 tv station that everyone watches. I think landing the #1 player on ESPN is important for other players as well. Probably Jones most important recruit.
JMO.
High character guy who was raised an evangelical Christian as his father is a senior pastor in the Nazarene Church. His father and uncle were also HS football coaches. I know Marcus Satterfield has a lot of respect for him and Marcus is good people.
Baylor being the largest southern Baptist university in the country and IIRC the world, provides a national recruiting base along with Texas. They are obviously trying to get their own values corrected after the Briles mess. So the intangibles matched up.
I see Baylor as a better match for him than Oregon based on all that. A tough, smart, hard worker that may bring the best D that conference has seen in years.
Well I said by Monday of this week all would be well around here. My apologies for being off by one day.
Has Ron told us all we should be ashamed for not knowing how lucky we are to have Butch yet?
So since the collective opinion of the forum seems to have flipped, I suppose your own has as well.
Rhule is good just think he is better suited in Big Ten territory. So many coaches make the mistake of leaving their recruiting base that made them the coach they are
