This article was ready to go for today on the heels of the Trey Smith announcement which they no doubt were hoping wouldn't go our way in order to generate more heat.

I'm level-headed enough to see that there's some truth in the article, but also enough to see the intent. This article has been in the works for a while but was conveniently dropped at a time when the program had finally picked up some good news.

You can't look at the results on the field and conclude there's anything BUT serious problems, so I'm not sure why that article is getting so much heat here.

If you can't get enough people to go on the record and agree to be named or identified in your story, you keep digging until you find some who will or you drop the story altogether. Because using a bunch of unnamed sources isn't reporting, it's gossip.

The timing, the unnamed sources, some is just untrue, like players being named captains who didn't deserve it, and it seems to be a legitimate hit piece meant to bring heat back on Butch after yesterday (and apparently today's) big recruiting news. A lot of it is true, I'm sure, and butch has a lot to fix. But there's a lot wrong with that article also

We just landed the best lineman in the country to the dismay of the two biggest coaches in college football in spite of the negativity going around. I think that warrants a sliver of positivity for at least one day.

It is unreal what is allowed to be published this day and age. This article would have never made it to editing 10 to 15 years ago.

So apparently there's talk on 247 (John Brice) that Butch might be bringing in Helfrich for OC or Co/OC, Brady Hoke for DL coach and Terry Fair to coach DB's. Doubt it happens but that would be interesting.

If Butch is trying to make that happen, then he is back to wanting a statue in the entrance. Maybe he has decided to go all in again, and try to build a lasting legacy, instead of looking for a easy way out cause his feelings are hurt at us for being pissed off.

Yep. Def some truth in there such as Lawson and too much player control.

Also some flat out BS. Calling out captians as lazy? Really? I hope he isn't talking about this years captain because that is pretty obvious garbage. Not comfortable in his own skin? Yeah right guy is a ego-maniac.

We played Presbyterian...

We dropped 16(17?) Triples on them. That's not easy against anyone. Defense looks good, I like how we've used the press this year. Offense has a streaky tendency to it and goes through spells. But if you can make the long ball like that you can beat anyone.

No question it was an agenda piece, but there's a lot of truth in it. There are clearly internal issues that need to be addressed. Daniel Hood graduated in 2013; most of the issues started after he graduated and escalated this year, so his opinion doesn't relate to what happened in 2016.

The core of the piece is on point-- there is a cloud of negativity surrounding the program right now and many question CBJ's future and fit at UT-- but a stellar AD hire, a top recruiting class and some staff upgrades can start things trending positive again.

Well he has shown that he tends to only do what he needs to when his back is against the wall and has to. Similar to games. Opens it up with Dobbs when he is forced to down multiple scores. Seems to be doing same with his staff.

Saw Wolken bring up Scott as a candidate at USF. I would normally worry there but there are some big names wanting that job that I don't see him getting a real shot over Kiffin and Strong.

Could easily pull a James Franklin move with one swift hire. Franklin let his ego go and brought in someone that new more offense than him allowing him to tweak things. Butch does same thing with his OC and Shoop then things could turn back in his favor fast

It is sooo hilarious watching posters pissed off about that story for saying the same thing that they themselves were saying last week.

No doubt, that person could have gotten most of his info from "unnamed" sources of VOL NATION.

So just keep rubbing everyone's nose in the fact if it makes you feel good.

The truth is that we don't have an AD in place, but even if we did, Butch is not going to be fired. Either we can all stew and wring our hands, or we can hope that he makes the right improvements.

One improvement is getting that ESPN number one recruit.

Unnamed sources work in our favor, IMO. Anonymity creates doubt. The writer could have found former players who would have said some of that stuff and worse OTR. That would have lent more credibility to the piece and gotten even more play. Timing works for us, too. There's more good press than bad today, so this will get lost in the positive recruiting news.

A couple of no name "sources" and "Reporters" for the Vols and Wes Rucker throwing shade to the program.

Give me a break

That "article" is trash.

Not only was it trash it was all over the map. The writer was jumping all over the place.
Surely he wrote that after tying one on.

Reid announces this afternoon, and UT expects to pick up another target. So recruiting will be the headline grabber today.

Butch should read this article and learn anything he can from it. However I am concerned that there are people around the program trying to screw Butch over. Instead of leaking a bunch of information to the press, they need to allow the offseason and next season to play out and see if Butch Jones can correct any problems. They shouldn't try to stab Butch in the back. He isn't going anywhere at least until after next season.

Rucker on twitter defending this to no end. He's probably laughing on the Bama board right now. We're all frustrated with Butch. But the timing of this article was horrible. The week following Vandy it wouldn't have looked as bad. But the day after we land Trey Smith? That isn't an accident imo
