I actually took the article as positive.

It seems like a lot of the mistakes centered around this season and things Butch did when recruiting the 2014 class in particular.

I think since then he's honed in on what type of player he wants and has gotten more "team" guys.

I also think it clearly shows that with some correct hires and an ability to delegate and not meddle consistently he could be successful here.

There are some personality issues with Butch that will just never go away, but I 100% promise you if he wins 10+ games consistently they won't even be a thought.

He needs a Dabo losing to 70 against WVU in his 4th year A ha moment.

I know you probably didn't know this, but my son hung himself 2 years 4 months ago and I really do not like seeing this kind of post, especially around the holidays. I try to be a little less sensitive because I know a lot of people do not think anything about posting these type things as jokes. It is a tough time of the year for some though.

Ah man. My heart hurts for you.

Maybe that happened against South Carolina and Vandy?

Bob Welton has alluded to more of a "team" guy on Doug Matthews show before.

It would be nice if the local media would report on a coach's deficiencies before said coach falls flat on their face. Butch might have already made some changes in how he manages his locker room and his staff if the media would report on the facts when they know them instead of waiting until the coach fails.

I think the biggest issue with the article is the headline. 247 knows most people will either just read the headline or read the first few sentences and then think UT football is a dumpster fire.

Ditto, Helfrich as OC alone would have me fully back on board the butch train. No way Helfrich would come and be micromanaged by a guy who is nowhere near the offense some mind he is.

If DeBord helped draw up the gameplan and plays...as well as drilled it into the team? I don't think he'd have any issue with that. Those were DeBord's strengths as opposed to hiccups and telegraphed tendencies in gameday. If Helfrich doesn't feel it, another qualified play caller would. Key is Butch staying hands off.

I really don't understand why anybody is surprised or outraged by this story. The writer could have found alums, donors, boosters and former players who could have validated his opinions and said things far more detrimental to the program. It could have been much worse.

I am not surprised by anything. Who cares what alums or donors think? They are just fans with money. Do you think they would have attached their name to it?

I just don't understand why people around the program care to talk about it. Doesn't help anyone.

I am the only one that thinks no chance at all Helfrich cones here!

The timing, the unnamed sources, some is just untrue, like players being named captains who didn't deserve it, and it seems to be a legitimate hit piece meant to bring heat back on Butch after yesterday (and apparently today's) big recruiting news. A lot of it is true, I'm sure, and butch has a lot to fix. But there's a lot wrong with that article also
The party about the captains seemed to come from a Hurd supporter imo.

It was a benign article. A hit piece would have been much more vindictive and could have done real damage. The media has backed off some issues and that's a good thing.

The real concern is that CBJ has escalated an adversarial relationship with the media. Some seem to really dislike him and enjoy making him look bad. That reflects negatively on UT. It's never good to have the media out to get you.

Isn't this the kid who wanted to come to UT but they passed on him?
