The Haney article is spot on.

I know he used credible sources and I know who some of them were.

He sat down with the UT PR dept and gave them opportunities to respond, clarify, fact check and they dropped the ball.

Haney is not a hack journalist no matter what some of you want to believe.

Haney is as good as it gets. People don't want to believe that the program is on fire - I get that. It sucks that another coach is going to ultimately be fired.

Ouch.

I am not surprised by anything. Who cares what alums or donors think? They are just fans with money. Do you think they would have attached their name to it?

I just don't understand why people around the program care to talk about it. Doesn't help anyone.

I agree-- it's better not to talk about certain things... but some people do. When money talks, people listen. If someone with a recognizable name said something quoteworthy, it would get more attention. As it is, the story is a ho-hummer that nobody will remember next week.

I am the only one that thinks no chance at all Helfrich cones here!

It would take a leap out of his comfort zone for sure. He's only gone as far east as Arizona. Maybe falling short in a career opportunity?

I didn't click over and read the whole article. But from the snippets posted on here earlier, it didn't seem all that bad to me.

It's not that what he said was all that bad. It's the way it is presented.

For me, the biggest things are....

1. Using a extremely negative quote from an unnamed source as your title
2. Using an unnamed source to describe how Butch Jones feels about himself. I mean what in the world is that? That is so tacky to me.
3. Obviously he has went in there after the Vandy game to take the "pulse" of the program.
4. Pretty obvious that he used Wes Rucker at least once as a source. Maybe more than once.

Most of what they use unnamed sources for are for opinions not facts. It's ignorant. Of course some people at Tenn think things are bad. Same as here.

Bingo. It would have been a garbage article even if it had a neutral title, but the title they decided to use takes them out of the journalism department and puts them on the tabloid rack.
