From what I am told, the players didn't want to do the workouts and eventually convinced Butch to run him off.

Once that happened the accountability on each player to develop and put in the work was gone.

The players let this trickle from the weight room to the practice field to the playing field.

It showed. Early and often.

Which players?

My only problem with the article is the inflammatory title.

Yeah, I think that frames it as much worse than it really is. I think if the title is "Tennessee finds itself at a crossroads under Butch Jones," there isn't quite the reaction that there has been.

You guys realize this story ran on 247, right? Some of you are acting like it ran in the Washington Post under Carl Bernstein's byline. It's not investigative journalism; it's an opinion piece on an online sports site. They're not trying to win a Pulitzer; they're trying to get clicks for ad revenue. Let it die.

IF...I mean big effin..IF that was true..it would go a long ways toward explaining this years general malaise...I just don't buy it..

Try to believe it for just a second and then think about the ups and downs of the season.

It will start to make sense.

I know we don't want to believe it but ....

It was a HUGE issue that had a massive ripple effect.

It was the reason we started and ended the year the way we did.

So why was he let go? Was he blamed for injuries? Clashed with players? What is the real story?

Edit* nevermind, you already answered

It's a defense mechanism

Some people can't dissociate and speaking negatively about our beloved program is taken as a personal attack.
