Hard to believe the minimal amount of staff movement to this point. Just all speculation right now...

It's actually not that hard to believe since we've known our AD was retiring 7 months ago and still no end in sight there. Just another day at the cf of an organization called the UT athletic department.

Hate that we lost Dan Brooks, one of those elite position coaches who doesn't have ambition to be a HC or DC.

NFL is so odd. Broncos hiring Vance Joseph. Why? You got Wade Phillips running the defense you need an offensive guy. Vance been a DC one year.

Anyone see this PAC Pro league mess Mike Shanahan and Ed McCaffery are starting in 2018? It is a terrible idea and one that could weaken college football and ruin kids lives that don't end up good enough for the NFL long term leaving them with no 4 yr degree from a top institution.

They want to allow kids to skip college and train on four teams making $50k per year. All prostyle offenses and no soread which makes no sense as NFL is adopting spread all over. You get reimbursed for attending community college in summer/offseason.

Did you not see the first portion of the season where he made some of the best halftime adjustments of any UT DC I've seen in a long, long time?

Between Martinez having no idea how to coach a DB and losing all of our DTs, I honestly believe there was zero chance that our Defense could be even serviceable.

I saw us get completely shredded when the schedule got tougher, and some awful play against the terrible teams at the end.

The 50k a year developmental League is a good idea. Not the spread part, but the overall idea. I've said for years football needs a little separation from universities (maybe still have affiliations but not be run by an academic entity), and I think this is the first step toward an inevitable minor league that won't be 100% controlled by the NCAA.

I think Canales is a good hire and the best fit for QB staff if Scott is promoted to OC. Were not gonna find a QB coach that's exciting AND experienced because they get promoted to OC faster than just about any other offensive staff position. So butch is looking for someone with years of experience coaching in multiple systems.

While Weinke and Dorsey are flashy names, they don't have the experience that Canales does and I think there is merit to the argument that you want to add a more veteran coach on the offensive side of the ball. Especially if the change from Mahoney to Wells happens. That would be a very young offensive coaching staff

Can Canales coach QBs tho? Will he help in recruiting that is struggling right now?

We also lost double digit 2 deep players at that point in the season too, especially at DT

Then why not adjust(dumb it down) instead of doing the same things that aren't working.

For example, the all out blitz with warrior at safety vs SC. I blame them for not putting the FR in a better spot to succeed than Nigel on that play. That's just one example. Why not just give Barnett and company a chance on third and long?

Completely disagree. From a selfish, college football fan perspective it sucks. From an overall, best interest of some of these kids, perspective it is a great idea. Especially the way they are constricting it.

Majority of kids don't want to go to school. So they will go this route. Money won't be saved. They will immediately spend it on random stuff because you handed an 18year old from a rough life $50k out of HS. He probably will not go to the Community College because every kid thinks they are going pro no matter what anyone says. When a kid tears an ACL and no longer Shananam the dictator worthy he will kick them to the curb. The kid will no longer be eligible for college football and not able to afford college on his own.

NFL teams need to quit crying about spread and learn how to coach or to take the right QBs. Instead of blaming their evaluations they blame everyone else.

If T helps college kids get compensation then great but it's a bad bad idea that could put kids that don't see past being an NFL player. Most NFL players aren't even in league long so what happens then with no education or just a two year degree instead of the 4 year kind? As bad as the NCAA can be there is still good in college

I don't see this working at all. You're gonna need a heavy investment to pay good coaches, which I don't think will happen. And if the league doesn't produce serious NFL prospects within 5 years of inception, it will fold in a hurry.

Back to this, so how can we truly want all these assistants out then if we use this excuse for the DC? Not saying that a few aren't warranted at all though.

I'm thinking more long term than short term. I initially started reading the article I saw this morning thinking oh this is great then as I kept going is when I start thinking so what happens when these kids aren't good enough to go NFL?

Over a ~30 year career he's coached QBs all but 4 years so he certainly has experience at it. And he's been in college all but 1 year so he certainly has experience recruiting.

He might not walk in and be the stud recruiter of the staff but there's no reason to assume that someone else would be better just because they have a flashy name when they've never done it before.

Well at least he does have a lot of QB coaching experience
