Fulmer would be good in a sense that he would no doubtt know what a football program needs to succeed. He has been through the grind that a lot of ADs havent.

Does he know what it takes to succeed in this era of football, though? That is the question.

Maybe the promise to DB will be that he will be the successor to Fulmer, when Fulmer chooses to retire?

Idk man, but I don't like the idea of Fulmer being AD unless it means that Blackburn is in some type of high level support decision.

It seems like the opposite move would be much better, though. Blackburn at AD, Fulmer in a support role focusing mainly on football

Also worth pointing out in the Titans' case to a lesser extent.

I don't think it's a coincidence that Mariota took such a big step forward at the same time the Titans' OL (and RBs too, I guess) became one of the better units in the NFL.

There are definitely good examples of each position group being very important. Titans are another good example of OL beingimportant. But say it's a contract year for Mariota and imagine they had that line. Would you let Mariota walk to keep that line intact? What if the only free agents on the market that you can fit in your salary cap after that are guys like Ryan Fitzpatrick?

I'd pony up for Mariota in a second and hope I have a good OL replacement that I drafted that can be suitable. A great OL can win you a lot of games. But can they win you a super bowl?

You're not beating anyone when it counts unless you have a good QB. OL or not

It's a tough balancing act.

But I do think there have been a number of teams recently that have shown that building a solid OL before grabbing your guy at QB is a good strategy for success. Bonus points if you can get those OL and the QB in the draft and have them all cheap together for a few seasons.

Of course, if you have a truly elite QB, OL matters less. But I don't think there are too many truly elite QBs in the NFL right now. Just some really good ones.

Yeah and that's not wrong. Anyone that believes that can point to the cowboys this year and can justify that statement in my eyes. Dak has been very impressive but most people will point to the OL and Zeke.

At the same time though if you get an above average to elite QB you pay up IMO. The really good ones can negate spotty OL play and are very rare. Wilson isn't Brady or Manning but his scrambling gives your team a chance no matter how bad the OL is.

Agreed on Dak, but I'd argue Zeke is no better than Gurley, just Zeke has the elite OL. The OL giving you time and a believable play action will make good QB be elite and bad QB be good. I refuse to believe there are so few people in the entire world who can play QB. You put some of those "just average" QB on the Cowboys and they'd look amazing.

They've had an elite line for a few years now so why couldn't Romo's backups look amazing? Never underestimate the importance of having a good trigger man. Imo it's the toughest position to play in sports.

I don't think anybody is saying Dak is only good because of that OL.

But their OL and running game really do take the pressure off him. He doesn't have to do it all himself very often, and that's a big factor too.

People thought the same thing about Ryan and Atlanta. Once you decide to pay a lot for a QB you also have to invest around them and go all in. The Falcons made this decision.

Unless you have Brady who can score touchdowns with anyone it seems.

Did you actually compare marijuana laws to Jim Crow?

Careful with open flames boys. If all these straw men catch fire, it's likely burn VN to the ground.

Given that both Jim Crow and Marijuana laws have been used to systematically target black communities and disproportionately effected the lives of people of color it's not as big of a stretch as it might seem at first. If we had a fairer society it might be otherwise but right now we're still working towards that and drug laws do disproportionately hurt communities of color and poor whites who are the most likely to be pulled over, arrested, and hit with the harshest sentencing measures despite the fact that drug rates are roughly the same regardless of class or color.

That said, I don't believe the poster was making a comparison of the two but rather citing an example to show that just because something is a rule or a law doesn't necessarily make that rule or law right or moral.

I think games are won and lost in the trenches so you won't hear me down playing the importance of a strong line. But by the same token you can't just throw Joe Shmoe back there at QB and they look great.

If we could get both Fulmer and Blackburn (no matter who is what), then that would be a grand slam, imo. Together they could get our athletic programs restored back to where they should be.
