Wanted to add, I'm not sure how I feel about Cyprien. Admittedly don't know much about him but on the surface, I'm not a big fan of signing a player from a bad team that the bad team didn't even want. If we sign him, hope we don't pay him much.

The narrative surrounding this move is that he's a good in the box safety and a great run defender, but because of a scheme switch during his time there ended up playing in coverage a lot more than he should have been.

The plan seems to be to make him a true in the box SS and let Byard be more of a centerfielder (which is what he's more suited for anyway).

I still wouldn't rule out them taking Adams at 5, but IMO this kind of looks like a move they've made hoping it will let them trade that pick.

More than likely a trade deal is happening for Cooks or Robinson is trading down. Hopefully they are getting Cooks from NO. That would be two positions of need handled by trade and FA with more to come. I know they want OJ Howard as the TE of the future. He would probably still be on the board at #11 or even at #18.
I would like to see them get Cooks but I hope they don't give up too much. While Robinson is willing to make deals, he doesn't appear so far to be the type to over pay much.

Normally I would agree, but not on Cyprien. CBS had him a top 50 FA. He made around 130 tackles last season. I think he fits LeBeau's system and schemes perfectly. LOS guy, not nearly as good in coverage. Tells me they will run a ton of nickel to get 3 coverage d-backs in the game to go with Byard in center field.
Blaine Bishop likes his run D so that's good enough for me. I really didn't know anything about him.

I feel like they're gonna be in cap trouble in a couple of years.

Yep - this feel like they are on a drunken spending spree to buy their way back to respectability. Campbell is deserving of a big check based on past performance. He will also be 31 years old when the next season starts. No way do I throw that kind of money at a guy that age at that position. We've seen big checks to elite CB's work out for a couple of years and then be albatrosses.

FWIW, several sites stating Robinson has a "standing offer" on Cooks with NO. The only other one currently in it is NE wanting to give them Butler in exchange. They may be playing the waiting game for an offer from another org, but you know Robinson will not sit still and wait long. They are also kicking the tires on former Ravens NT Williams. May be too expensive.

Yeah after hearing everybody's take on it I feel much better about it. I hope they do trade the 5. I really feel like Robinson always is prepared and had a plan and I think the same about Mularky.

If this is the way journalism is going, I think I will make a career change. I would love to be paid to tell half truths and fabricate scandalous stories with zero accountability or reprocution from my superiors. I believe JK Rowling is held to a higher standard for her works of fiction than Haney.

It's the exact opposite for me. I'm going into the field of journalism and the state it is in-- and my working in the Media Relations Dept-- has me thinking I might like this a bit more.

He's not good in coverage yet. Kind of floats around at times and loses his assignments. I think LeBeau can fix that enough to make it workable. He's really good on run D and looks like he would be good at some of the exotic blitzing LeBeau does.

Williams would be great at NG for us. Again, I don't see Robinson overpaying for him. I think he wants to make reasonable FA moves to "tread water" at certain positions while they build through the draft. Then when he gets the chance sign some young impact FAs to good contracts. Aggressive but not reckless.

I'm sure LeBeau has lots of input on who he thinks he can turn into an impact S in his defense. I think Byard is gonna be really good. Our secondary got better when he took over as starter.

I'm not a Titans fan, but I have to say, Robinson was impressive in his year one off season movements. I've got no reason to believe at this point that he won't be just as impressive this year. It sounds like he's making (or at least trying to make) some really good moves again.

Per PFR, Robinson/Titans now have the highest paid ST player in the NFL in Brynden Trawick, FA S played last season for Oakland. 2 years for $6.85 MM. He and former Oakland teammate LB Darren Bates were signed today. Bates got $6 MM for 3 years. Combined with re-signing Nate Palmer for 2 years, they now have 3 of the best ST guys in the league that can also provide quality defensive depth.

Momma's, let your babies grow up to play ST. Wow.

They were saying on 104.5 that Brett Kern said Trawick is the best ST player in the league. They said that's significant bc Kern REALLY pays attention to special teams players so he knows what he's talking about.

104.5 also said Saints want the Titans 5 th pick but they are offering the 18th for Cooks.

Saints pretty proud of Cooks 70ish receptions in a Pass first second and third style offense.

Cooks would get about 2 receptions per game in the Titans offense.

Pass (no pun intended)

Who knows what they're thinking, but to me it seems like there's a lot of depth at CB and DE/Pass rushers this year (though not really many CBs worth the first top 10 picks). If it turns out that they're able to turn that 5th pick into a couple more picks (hopefully in a trade back to 10-12), they can probably get a solid CB or pass rusher to shore up the secondary or front seven as well as an WR or TE for Mariota to throw to in the first round.

A trade up from 10-15 to 5 would probably involve at least a 3rd rounder and some change, and racking that up would probably allow the the Titans (who already have 2 3rd round picks this year, but no 2nd round picks) to make a move up to the 2nd round if there was a guy they really wanted at another position of need.

If the coaches felt Cooks really fit their offense and what they're trying to do, I'd say make that trade (at 18) straight up. Cooks is only 23 and is a proven commodity. Most of the WRs we might make a run at with that pick are 22 or 23 unproven.

That being said, you only do it if you know he fits. I'm not sure he does. Sure, it would be nice to have a versatile deep threat to keep defenses more honest. However, Mariota isn't the best deep ball guy in the first place and Cooks probably won't be up to snuff blocking the way the Titans want.

The more I think about things, the more I'd been fine with them using that 18th pick on OJ Howard as Delanie Walker insurance/extra blocking power.
