Referring to a particular sport? Never heard of him.

TN fans on social media are downright idiots. So he got that part right. Seen some calling for Barnes head which is ridiculous. If he fails next year then feel free to hVe that chatter. This years team being in the NCAA talk was a miracle in itself

True, but don't say that too much. You'll draw out the "so you're ok with mediocrity" crowd.

Did the season end in disappointment? Sure. The only reason it was a disappointment though is because the team overachieved and gave people hope for something more than was/should have been expected.

Bottom line. They were predicted to win 12 games. They won 16. Barnes finished at .500 for the season with a small, young team. That should be enough to by him another year without the bit**ing. It won't be, but it should be.

He isn't talking about the idiot fringe on twitter. He is just talking about the average fan that wants to see us win. He is a gator lover and thinks UT should take their mediocrity and celebrate it.

He co-hosts the morning show on 990 with Heather. Heather is way better than him and I believe the show would be better if she did it solo or just brought in a guy off the street.

Outside of occasionally listening to Clay's banter on 104.5, I have never been a sports talk radio guy. What's the appeal in those shows? It seems like they are less informed than the average VN poster nowadays. Maybe they had a place pre-internet, but now all of their information is outdated, disproven, or just flat out wrong by the time they read it on air.

Maybe it's just the times that I'm able to listen, but there seems to be more BSing when I'm listening that actual sports talk. On occasion you'll get good information, but at least when I listen (at various times during the day) it seems more like a talk show on TV rather than a sports show.

Yeah, Good radio shows are getting harder to find. I will say I still like listening to shows that have someone who either played, coached or managed college or professional sports. Nashville has a couple good ones on the ESPN affiliate station 102.5. They have Floyd Reese (former Titans GM) on one show and Derrick Mason (sp?) (former Titans WR) on another show. They provide a lot of good insight into the NFL and the Titans. Free Agency is great right now listening to Floyd because he has been analyzing free agent deals and not just for the Titans, for other big name acquisitions too.

Quote from Callahan:

"We've been in contact with the folks at 247Sports headquarters today, and we've been assured by our CEO, Shannon Terry, that Travis Haney won't be writing about Tennessee again for us.
We'll have more on this later. Working on it as we speak."

Well if you're in your car it's better than nothing.

I listen to two shows regularly. Basilio and Hyams.

Hyams gives me legit news and has interesting and relevant guests on his show. Basilio gives a fans perspective and also has some great co-hosts and some great weekly guests that he brings on.

There's some other shows that are decent such as Ainge or josh and will. Then there's some awful shows such as swain and the one that dearstone had.

True dat! It was irresponsible for the original article to be written and also irresponsible for SEC Country to publish such a crap article.
The last sentence states Butch has back to back 9 win seasons, not exactly sounding like someone on the firing block..

It is so utterly unnewsworthy, I don't see how it can be anything than another hit piece about our program. Is Haney a UT 247 guy or a national 247 guy? Either way, he is a hack with an agenda who should be ignored.

I'm gonna sum up Vince Ferrara's take on everything related to the Vols.

1.) Tennessee fans are stupid
2.) Tennessee fans should be happy with mediocrity
3.) Tennessee isn't any good

This is the guy's whole persona drilled down to its bare bones. His mindset is "Tennessee isn't any good and you should like it but you're too stupid to know that. "

Yes, he is another Florida shill who finds every negative article or statistic about Tennessee and puts it out there so that we can learn to realize, like he does, just how bad we are.

😂😂😂 what strange parallel universe are we in? Did they find out Haney actually has some sort of a negative agenda set up against us?

I honestly don't know how this process works over there, but is there not some form of editorial oversight? How can anyone look at an article that uses one unsourced claim to make what is an objectively insane accusation -- that we would have fired Butch Jones after last season had we not been going through an AD search -- and approve it for publication?

Yeah....How about questioning how yet another stupid article managed to get by EVERYONE again Mr. Terry. Sounds like MR. Haney may not be the only Idiot working at 247.

Yeah when I listen to SPORTS talk radio I want to hear about, you know, sports. I don't care where they went on vacation or who they sat next to in a restaurant or what drinks they like. 104.5 in the afternoon is the worst.

I guess they give them free reign and expect them to be responsible "reporters", or journalists, whatever you want to call it, but obviously that isn't working.

J school now pushes narrative more than ethics, or at least that's what a couple of journalism graduates relayed to me a few years back. Tfwiw.

I'm pretty sure 247 legitimately doesn't have editors in the old-school sense. They may have fact checkers (i.e., people who make sure names, dates, and places are correct) and people who read the stories to make sure they're grammatically correct, but they don't have anyone on staff who tears down stories and makes sure the reporters have solid sources and are actually "reporting" something rather than just "saying" something.

That's actually becoming more and more common. The average reader doesn't really care if a story is well-vetted, and it's cheaper to hire a bunch of hacks who have little to no oversight or guidance and are capable of churning out content than it is to staff your "newsroom" with real journalists.
