I think that is why I admire Jordan as a player so much, and pretty much all the stars of that era...Those guys earned it.
Totally different game of basketball back then.
He would have immediately been met out on the wing by someone like Rodman or Pippen with a stiff forearm in his back, and a hand in his stomach if he turned around.
If he gets by them, he can expect an enforcer at the rim. Not ready to block his shot, ready to take his head off....
Yes sir you are right. To me that's basketball though. Also, not just the Bulls example you gave but pretty much every legit contender in those days had an All-Pro Center to defend the rim.

I wasn't even really talking about the Bulls, I was more referencing the Pistons and the Knicks.
Just used Scottie as a wing reference.
Oakley & Laimbeer are the classic 80's goons... ready to maul anyone that came near the rim.
Edit - I get the Bulls comment. I was actually referencing Pistons era Rodman, when he defended the wing. Not Bulls era Rodman, when he defended the block.
Another rule change that has helped this generation of players, including LeBron, is defensive 3 seconds.
Back in the day you had some bad dudes just hanging out in the paint waiting for you.
I have to disagree with LeBron coming in as a skinny kid. Yes, he was smaller than he is now, but he had the most ready for the NBA body, I have ever seen coming straight out of high school
You're right. Skinny isn't the right term. But he has come a long way physically since then.
Why hold his athleticism and size against him though? It's not like he hasn't worked to develop and maintain it.
"LeBron wouldn't have stood a chance in the 70's, 80's, or early 90's. Basketball was just so physical then."
Lol. LeBron is the most physically gifted basketball player of all time. Maybe the most physically gifted athlete across any sport ever.
The rules dictate the game now, but LeBron would've been dominant in any era of basketball.
You don't know how basketball was played back then.
Cool story bro moment:
Was at the TN Sports Hall of Fame inductee welcoming party downtown tonight. Got to meet Philip Fulmer, Al Wilson, Willie Gault, Condredge Holloway, and Chad Clifton. Ole Phil can still work a room. Him and Al Wilson were who everyone flocked to.
Would Lebron even play the way he does if he came up in an earlier era? Seems like he's a product of his times. Why not take advantage of the rules as they currently stand?Do you all really think that Lebron could not have adapted his game to the style of play back then? Or, that MJ would not have adapted his to the way it's played now. I think that is one of the things that makes them both great. Their games are diverse enough that they could have done whatever it takes to be successful in each other's era.
