LOL, that is pretty hilarious. It is a very dumb tweet, I agree, and does likely present Butch in a better light than it was intended. I will say that I am a little disappointed it took so long to replace Jancek and Martinez. I also did not know that Szersen was still here. That's also a little surprising to me.

By all accounts Szerszen was very good as an assistant SC. If Rock was fine with retaining him, I don't see the issue.

Found this funny... Wouldn't Butch having bad assistants make it even more impressive of what he has done so far?

Of course, but Vol twitter doesn't care. All negative all the time. Their comments about Butch are like CNN towards Trump

I think we replaced Jancek at the right time. He did a good job of turning around our defense imo, Just did a poor job late in games, which we didn't know about until 2015 lol.

I will say its the HC job to make good hires/fires and at the right time. So that's obviously on Butch. But he made a lot of good hires this season imo. So according to this post it should elevate Butch... Which is not what they intended it for :)

You would think based on the Shaq art Locke reactions that this was butchs first yr as coach. Typical Butch and staff derecruiting a kid that he or media thinks is a starter as soon as they step out there. Don't hang on every word from an article with coach speak involved. They didn't even say anything about talent. Just talking about the constant hustle required for practice which is different at TN than other places he has been. Figured everyone knew that by now.

As for Moseley talk, same stuff being said about him was stuff people said about Coleman going into SR year. He has the talent and physical size to be a good one. He went from being a QB to a CB coached by a guy with CB coaching abilities everyone criticized. So we hire someone that can teach CBS so I think it's silly toncount him out

Yes, that is very true :) I am very excited about all of the new hires for this season.

VolTwitter, ladies and gentlemen. What a moron.

So...setting aside the 3 promotions and 1 retirement he inexplicably lists as negatives, 4 were let go and 1 resumed his lower level job. What the hell else does he want?

Ya I was trying to figure out the agenda. You could argue most of those were promotions.

All but Jancek and Martinez.

I was not criticizing the move, I was just surprised. I agree that if Rock thinks he is good enough, then he is good enough.

Why would Butch having bad assistants (the ones he hired) make him look better in any way?

Why would Butch having bad assistants (the ones he hired) make him look better in any way?

The bad hires are on him no doubt. But Having bad assistants makes it harder to win games, one of only a couple SEC coaches and maybe a dozen nationally to win 9+ past 2 years. Had we had a better play caller on defense in 2015, we beat UF and possibly OU. Him hiring good assistants this year will elevate Butch(based on this tweet).

The good thing about our recruiting right now is that we have filled our needs and have gotten almost every "must get" player on our board. With the exception of LB and maybe WR. The coaches can now really focus on filling the final 7-8 spots with the most elite possibilities they have a chance with. Also continue building relationships with current commits to keep them in the fold. This is a very good spot to be in. They can also dedicate more time on building relationships with 2019 recruits more than in previous years.

So it took him a few seasons to figure out that the same assistants that allowed him to win at previous stops couldn't do so here, and this was further complicated by the fact that he didn't have a talented enough team either? OK. He fixed the talent, then was still not winning, so now he's fixing the coaching. That may or may not fix it, but I don't think I would quite as critical of sticking with the guys that got it done before. He's clearly learning and changing. Whether he ever wins at the level we all hope remains to be seen, but some of the criticisms are kinda stupid.
